Customer Blog: Montenegro Summer 2024

Lucy Morgans on 06 June 2024
I was referred to Lucy by my previous Travel Counsellor, Elaine when she retired. I contacted Lucy for the first time back in December 2023 as we were looking to book a relaxing trip for Summer 2024 to a place I’ve been looking to visit for a while. Lucy provided advice on where best to stay to meet our criteria and presented us with the perfect option and we swiftly booked our trip for June 2024 to the beautiful Montenegro.

Upon arrival into Montenegro, we were met by our transfer. The transfer to our hotel took around an hour’s drive which included seeing the beautiful coastline of Montenegro along the way. Upon arrival at our hotel drop-off-point we were greeted by a member of staff from our hotel who walked us to the hotel. The hotel was a beautiful family-run 4-star hotel located in a quieter part of the resort. It was perfect; located within a 5-minute walk to the main promenade, where you can find plenty of lovely restaurants and are able to watch the sunset by the beach whilst having a cocktail, which is exactly what we did on our first evening here! There are also various hidden trails around this resort which you can embark on that lead to beautiful, secluded beaches.

With help from our hotel receptionist and also a local rep , we arranged a few local tours to enjoy during our one week’s stay.

Our first trip was a tour around the coast of Montenegro, with our first stop being Tivat and Porto Montenegro with the latter being a modern and luxury marina with boutique shops and restaurants. We continued down the coast of Tivat and took a short ferry trip across the bay followed by a drive down past Risan to a small town called Perast. From here we were able to visit the beautiful man-made island of ‘Our Lady of the Rocks’ which can only be accessed by a short boat trip. This was one of my highlights of Montenegro, and a place where pictures do not do it justice! The church itself is beautiful but the views from here are spectacular! For our final stop we spent some time in the old town of Kotor. This town was was stunning! Although it’s a very popular and busy place, you can still wander around the narrowed cobbled streets and explore the lovely little shops the town has to offer. Our guide made this an exceptional tour with his vast knowledge and witty facts about Montenegro.

On our fourth day in Montenegro, we visited Lake Skadar. We arrived at the small town of Virpazar where we set off on a boat trip across the peaceful lake. The Lake encompasses steep mountains, clear waters and floating water lilies. The views were simply breathtaking, and the boat trip was quite relaxing. Unfortunately, we weren’t too lucky, and we didn’t get to see any pelicans or other bird species as it was way too windy, but the view itself was worthwhile. Before heading back, we made a quick stop for lunch in a secluded restaurant and the lunch included freshly cooked fish, which was very tasty.

Our final tour began with a walk around the pretty old coastal town of Budva which has a resemblance to the old town of Kotor. We moved along to Montenegro’s old royal capital of Cetinje which is very rich in history. Along the way we made a quick stop at Montenegro’s oldest restaurant to taste the local delicacy of smoked ham and cheese, which was delicious! On our way back we took the famous Serpentine Road and stopped at a popular viewpoint where we could see a spectacular view of the whole bay of Kotor from above… Amazing!

We had a fabulous holiday, and we thoroughly enjoyed visiting Montenegro, it is a beautiful country with plenty to see and do. If you fancy visiting a place ‘out of the norm’ then I would highly recommend anyone to visit this up-and-coming holiday destination. Thanks Lucy for booking this trip for us!
