Dubrovnik 4 night stay
My wife and I took a 4 night break to Dubrovnik and are really glad we did. Dubrovnik old town is a historic and well preserved city surrounded by huge walls which in the past protected it’s citizens from attack. As part of your visit you must if you are able walk around the city walls if only for it’s magnificent view over the red tiled roofs of the old city but also for the spectacular views over the sea and to the hills behind. The old town has these wide marble stone pedestrian walkways and from these are a myriad of small alleyways full of shops and restaurants and where there are hidden surprises with churches and museums and ice cream sellers.
I would recommend getting the Dubrovnik 3 day pass as this gives you entrance to the walls (at only 10 euros more cost than the entrance fee on its own) but also includes free entrance to a host of museums and free bus travel on the local buses. We also received a 20% discount on the ferry trip to Lokrum Island.
Lokrum island lies a 15 minute ferry journey from Dubrovnik harbour and is well worth a visit. It’s a lovely walk around this protected island/nature reserve which has a deserted monastery used in the filming of Game of thrones. It has various gardens with a host of plants and trees and resident peacocks who strut around the gardens.
There are a limited number of beaches in Dubrovnik, we were lucky that our hotel had its own private beach and the sea is amazingly clear and turquoise although the beach is quite stony/rocky.
Eating out in Dubrovnik offers a huge range of restaurants including Italian, Asian and local tavernas. I would recommend the local snack called a Burek which is a flaky pastry filled with either meat or cheese and potato and is delicious.
A great city to explore and will definitely return
