Kauai the Garden Isle
I have never visited an Island more beautiful
If you are dreaming of a honeymoon that feels cinematic yet wonderfully relaxed, Kauai is a perfect choice. Known as Hawaii’s “Garden Isle. We recently spent three nights on Kauai and completely fell in love with it. We started with a helicopter flight over the Na Pali Coast and a landing at Jurassic Falls then drove to Waimea Canyon, often described as the “Grand Canyon of the Pacific which was stunning from the air and viewpoints. We stopped at one lookout and found ourselves completely alone with the silence of the canyon, which felt incredibly peaceful. On the way, we paused at the Hanapepe Swinging Bridge, a historic little suspension bridge that gently sways as you cross. Another highlight was driving up to the more laid-back North Shore. Tunnels Beach, which has a backdrop of green mountains, with a natural and unspoilt feel. Snorkelling here is the best on the island. Nearby Hanalei Bay, a wide crescent of beach with mountain views and a pier. Just behind the bay, Hanalei town has a charming small-town feel, with independent eateries and shops. We treated ourselves to coconut and pineapple shave ice and tried spam musubi, a quirky local snack. It is the kind of place where you wander, snack and browse, getting a lovely sense of everyday life on Kauai. Venturing South to Poipu, we passed a long avenue of eucalyptus trees creates a natural green canopy over the road. Poipu Beach itself is a beautiful curve of sand with calm waters and a relaxed but lively feel. One of my favourite memories is arriving to find turtles and a monk seal simply relaxing on the beach. It is also a gorgeous spot for sunset.
