Your journey begins in Sigiriya, home to one of Sri Lanka's most famous landmarks. Rising dramatically from the surrounding landscape, the UNESCO-listed Sigiriya Rock Fortress offers a fascinating glimpse into the island's royal past. During your stay, you'll also visit the ancient city of Polonnaruwa, where centuries-old temples, statues, and ruins tell the story of a once-thriving kingdom.
-
Next, you'll travel to the hill country around Nuwara Eliya. Known for its cooler climate and rolling tea estates, this region offers a completely different side of the island. Visit working tea plantations to learn how Sri Lanka's world-renowned Ceylon tea is produced, explore the town's colonial-era architecture, and enjoy sweeping views across the surrounding countryside.
-
Continuing south, you'll arrive at Yala National Park, one of the country's premier wildlife destinations. Game drives here offer the chance to spot elephants, crocodiles, sloth bears, and a remarkable variety of birdlife, while Yala is particularly renowned for its leopard population. From here, the itinerary moves on to historic Galle, where you'll have time to wander the cobbled streets of the UNESCO-listed Dutch Fort, browse independent boutiques and cafés, and enjoy views across the Indian Ocean from the old ramparts.
-
Throughout the journey, you'll stay in a carefully selected collection of hotels that reflect the character of each destination. Amaya Lake near Sigiriya provides a peaceful base surrounded by nature, while Amaya Langdale offers beautiful views across the tea-covered hills of Nuwara Eliya. At Yala, Uga Chena Huts combines spacious private accommodation with plunge pools and an exceptional location close to the national park, creating an immersive safari experience. Your holiday concludes at Jetwing Lighthouse in Galle, an elegant coastal retreat designed by Geoffrey Bawa, where stylish rooms, ocean views, and excellent facilities provide the perfect setting for a relaxing end to the trip.
