Your journey begins in Tokyo, where modern city life meets centuries-old traditions. Visit Senso-ji Temple in Asakusa, browse the shops and food stalls of Nakamise-dori, or head to Shibuya to see the famous crossing in action. Tokyo is also a great place to try some of Japan’s best-known dishes, from sushi and ramen to gyoza and yakitori.
Next, you’ll visit Osaka, giving you the chance to explore Kyoto, one of Japan’s most historic cities. Spend the day visiting Fushimi Inari Taisha, with its thousands of red torii gates, or wander through the traditional streets of Gion. Back in Osaka, Dotonbori offers a lively evening atmosphere, with bright signs, small restaurants, and local favourites such as takoyaki and okonomiyaki.
Later in the itinerary, you’ll arrive in Kagoshima, a city shaped by its proximity to Sakurajima volcano. Take in views across the bay, visit the landscaped grounds of Sengan-en, or sample local specialities such as kurobuta pork. You’ll also call at Shimizu, where clear conditions may offer impressive views of Mount Fuji, before visiting Busan in South Korea, home to Haedong Yonggungsa Temple, Gamcheon Culture Village, and a tempting choice of Korean barbecue and seafood.
