• A stop in Villefranche-sur-Mer offers a quieter side of the Côte d’Azur, with pastel-coloured buildings gathered around a deep, crescent-shaped bay. Wander through the old town’s narrow lanes, visit the Chapelle Saint-Pierre with its distinctive Jean Cocteau murals, or settle beside the waterfront and watch fishing boats and yachts come and go.
• In Portofino, spend time around one of the Italian Riviera’s most recognisable harbours, where colourful houses frame the waterfront beneath green hills. You’ll then continue to Livorno, the gateway to Tuscany, with the option to head inland for Florence’s Renaissance art and architecture or towards the vineyards and hill towns of Chianti.
