Your journey begins in Ushuaia, where you’ll sail along the Beagle Channel, passing snow-covered mountains, forested shorelines, and secluded bays. The channel is home to seabirds, sea lions, and dolphins, while the surrounding landscapes offer some of the finest views in Tierra del Fuego.

Next, you’ll travel through Glacier Alley, a section of the Beagle Channel named for the many glaciers flowing down from the Darwin Cordillera. Weather permitting, you’ll have the chance to take a Zodiac excursion or walk to a viewpoint, with the expedition team providing insight into the area’s geology, wildlife, and maritime history. The route then continues towards Pio XI Glacier, the largest glacier in South America, where you can watch for ice breaking away into the water.

As the expedition continues towards the Magellan Strait, you’ll have opportunities to spot Magellanic penguins, sea lions, dolphins, and a wide range of seabirds. Guided walks and Zodiac trips take you closer to the coastline, while lectures on board help bring the region’s wildlife, explorers, and remote communities to life. You may also have the chance to sample local specialities, including Patagonian lamb, fresh seafood, and dishes made with the distinctive calafate berry.

You’ll stay aboard the purpose-built Douglas Mawson, which carries a maximum of 130 expedition guests, creating a relaxed atmosphere and making it easier to get ashore by Zodiac. Between excursions, make use of the heated outdoor pool, two Jacuzzis, sauna, gym, library, Citizen Science Centre, and observation lounges, or relax in your stateroom after a day exploring the fjords.
