Follow the ancient pathways of Peru

• Your adventure begins in Lima, where a leader-led orientation walk takes you through the city’s historic centre. See grand colonial buildings, churches, and palaces, before having time to explore on your own. You could head to the bohemian district of Barranco for Peruvian street food and a Pisco cocktail or simply soak up the atmosphere of Peru’s coastal capital.

• Next, you’ll travel to the Sacred Valley, passing maize fields, Inca terraces, and mountain scenery on the way to Ollantaytambo. You’ll visit a local community, enjoy lunch, and have the chance to learn about traditional life in the valley, with the opportunity to pick up a few words of Quechua. The itinerary also includes a snack and drink at AMA Restaurant in Urubamba, a social enterprise supporting training and employment opportunities for single mothers.

• The highlight of the journey is Machu Picchu, reached by the Inca Trail, the Quarry Trail, or scenic train, depending on your preference. Those taking the Inca Trail will pass ancient sites, including Sayacmarca, Phuyupatamarca, and Wiñay Wayna before entering through the Sun Gate. Whichever route you take, a guided tour of Machu Picchu is included, giving you time to see the temples, palaces, and terraces of this remarkable Incan site.

• Accommodation combines four nights in hotels with three nights camping on the Inca Trail. Your hotel stays provide a comfortable base in Lima, Cusco, the Sacred Valley, and around Machu Picchu, while the camping offers a more immersive experience in the Andes. Twin-share tents, foam camping mats, porters’ support, and meals prepared by a trail cook are included during the trek, so you can focus on the scenery, the challenge, and the experience of following one of the world’s most famous walking routes.
