First, you’ll call at Sitka, where Tlingit and Russian history meet along the waterfront. At Sitka National Historical Park, the Totem Trail passes carved poles and follows the shoreline near the site of the 1804 Battle of Sitka. In town, St. Michael’s Cathedral is a landmark of Sitka’s Russian past, while local cafés and seafood spots offer a relaxed place to pause between exploring.
Next, you’ll visit Juneau, Alaska’s capital, set between the coast and the mountains. A popular choice for visitors is Mendenhall Glacier, where trails and viewpoints look across Mendenhall Lake towards the ice. Back in town, you can browse shops along South Franklin Street or stop for fresh Alaskan seafood before returning to the ship.
Ketchikan brings a different feel, with its waterfront, working harbour, and historic Creek Street built above Ketchikan Creek. You can walk the boardwalks, look out for salmon in the water, or visit the Totem Heritage Center to see historic totem poles. It’s a good place to take your time, sample local seafood, and get a sense of everyday life in a coastal Alaskan town.
During days on board Norwegian Bliss, head to the 180-degree Observation Lounge which has floor-to-ceiling windows for watching the scenery pass, while The Waterfront promenade offers oceanfront dining and open-air seating. For a change of pace, try the two-level Bliss Speedway or choose from the ship’s range of restaurants.
