Your first stop is Stavanger, a compact city with a lovely old harbour and plenty to explore on foot. Gamle Stavanger is one of the prettiest areas, with its white wooden houses, cobbled streets, and small independent shops. You can also visit Stavanger Cathedral, wander along the waterfront, or stop for fresh seafood and coffee in one of the cafés close to the harbour.

Next, you’ll be in Bergen, one of Norway’s best-known gateway cities to the fjords. The colourful wooden buildings of Bryggen are a real highlight, with narrow lanes, small shops, and a long trading history. There’s also the Fish Market for local dishes, and the Fløibanen funicular, which takes you up Mount Fløyen for wide views across the city, harbour, and surrounding mountains.

After that, you’ll visit Alesund, a coastal town known for its Art Nouveau architecture and dramatic setting between the sea and nearby islands. A good way to take it all in is by heading up to the Aksla viewpoint, where you can look back over the town, the harbour, and the surrounding fjord landscape. The centre itself is easy to explore, with decorative buildings, waterside cafés, and a calmer pace that suits this part of the journey.
