A week on the rivers of Burgundy and Provence is an easy way to experience some of France's most celebrated regions. Sailing from Dijon to Avignon, you'll pass vineyard-covered hillsides, riverside villages, and historic cities, with plenty of time to enjoy local food, wine, and centuries of history along the way. With immersive excursions included and the comfort of a luxury river ship, every day brings a different side of France.

Your journey begins in Dijon, the historic capital of Burgundy, where elegant townhouses, medieval streets, and bustling markets set the tone for the week ahead. This is one of France's great food destinations, famous for its mustard, pain d'épices, and exceptional wines. Nearby Tournus offers a slower pace, with its Romanesque abbey and family-run vineyards giving you a real taste of life in rural Burgundy before you continue south.
Next you'll arrive in Lyon, where the Rhône and Saône rivers meet. Often considered France's food capital, the city is packed with traditional bouchons serving local favourites such as quenelles and praline tarts, while the cobbled lanes of Vieux Lyon hide Renaissance courtyards, artisan shops, and lively cafés. Whether you're exploring on foot or simply enjoying the riverside atmosphere, Lyon is a highlight of the journey.
Your final stop is Avignon, one of Provence's best-known cities. Wander through the impressive Palais des Papes, stroll across the famous Pont d'Avignon, or spend time in the cafés and boutiques that line its leafy squares. The surrounding Provençal countryside adds another dimension, with lavender fields, olive groves, and renowned wine regions all within easy reach, making for a fitting finale before your journey home.
