Our Egypt Family Adventure Holiday
Here’s why Egypt turned out to be the perfect family adventure.
IS EGYPT FAMILY FRIENDLY?
You may wonder how easy Egypt would be to travel with children. But travelling with Intrepid’s small group family tour took all the stress away. The itinerary was designed for kids and parents alike: action-packed but balanced, educational yet fun.
Best of all, the group included other families, which meant built-in friends for my daughter (and for us too!). Watching her play pool games with new pals while we swapped stories with fellow parents was a real highlight.
VISITING THE PYRAMIDS WITH KIDS
Standing before the Pyramids of Giza was the moment I’d been waiting for. Seeing one of the Seven Wonders of the World with my family by my side was unforgettable — and ticked off number five on my personal list!
What I loved most was watching history come alive through my daughter’s eyes. Travel really is the world’s greatest classroom, and the pyramids were the ultimate lesson in ancient history.
WHY THE VALLEY OF KINGS STOLE MY HEART
If the pyramids were the dream, the Valley of the Kings was the surprise showstopper. Walking into the tomb of Ramesses IV was a proper WOW moment. The sheer size, the colours, the detail of the hieroglyphics — all so vivid and well preserved.
This is the resting place of Egypt’s most important pharaohs, including Tutankhamun. For me, it was the single most fascinating site of the entire trip. If you’re planning a family holiday to Egypt, make sure Luxor is on the itinerary.
THE JOY OF SMALL GROUP TRAVEL
One of the biggest reasons our trip was so successful? The small group format.
- More connection – both kids and adults made new friends along the way.
- Less stress – everything was organised, from transport to meals.
- Less moaning – when our brilliant guide Mudi set early starts, the kids accepted it. (They never would have if it came from us!)
And speaking of Mudi… the guides really do make the trip. As an Egyptologist, his passion and knowledge brought the history to life in a way that no book or museum ever could. My daughter rated him “100 billion out of ten” — and I have to agree.
WHAT IT'S REALLT LIKE ON AN OVERNIGHT TRAIN IN EGYPT
One of the most talked-about parts of the itinerary is the overnight train from Cairo to Aswan. No, it’s not luxury travel — think basic but comfortable. But with snacks, earplugs, and a good sense of humour, it turned into a family memory we’ll be laughing about for years to come.
In the end, it was one of those experiences that made the adventure even more memorable.
WHY EASTER IN EGYPT WAS PERFECT
Easter is the perfect time of year to visit Egypt with warm, but not sweltering temperatures. We explored, learnt, tasted, experienced, and loved every moment.
It was the kind of holiday that let us completely switch off, soak up a new culture, and share experiences that will stay with us forever.
