Planning a Maldives holiday is all about the details: choosing the right island, the right villa and the right time of year for you. That is where I come in. I am a dedicated Travel Counsellor with first-hand experience of the Maldives, having personally stayed on 19 different islands across a range of atolls and resort styles.

The Maldives is not just a beach destination, it is an experience designed around privacy, indulgence and effortless relaxation. With over a thousand islands scattered across the Indian Ocean, each resort typically occupies its own private island, so guests feel as if the entire world has been distilled down to soft sand, warm water and impeccable service.

The Maldives is a year-round destination, with warm temperatures and tropical sunshine throughout the year. The most popular time to visit is typically between December and April, when the weather is at its driest and the sea is at its calmest and clearest.

Travel outside peak months can be incredibly rewarding too. From May to November, you can often enjoy - softer pricing and attractive offers, fewer people on the islands and Incredible marine encounters, including manta rays and whale sharks in certain atolls.

One of the most important roles of a Maldives expert is matching each client to the island that fits their style. Although the scenery looks similar in photographs, the feel of each resort can be very different - this is where I come in!

Overwater villas are the image most people have of the Maldives, but beach villas are equally special, and often better for some guests, personally I prefer a beach villa! The most luxurious trips often combine both: a few nights in a beach villa to decompress after the flight, followed by overwater indulgence to finish.

Many clients do not realise that their Maldivian journey does not end at Malé airport. The final transfer is often one of the highlights - this is transfers as you will never of known before! Seaplane an unforgettable experience flying low over the atolls and reefs, the only way to catch those views as seen on TikTok or Insta! Speedboats are great for families with young children who prefer shorter journeys, giving James Bond vibes!

Will I be bored in the Maldives? For some, the joy of the Maldives is simply slowing down: sunrise coffee on the deck, a good book under the palms, sunset cocktails and the sound of the ocean. For others, it is a playground of water and wellness experiences. Snorkelling & diving: Coral reefs alive with colourful fish, reef sharks, rays and turtles. House reefs can vary significantly, so resort choice matters for keen underwater explorers. Watersports: Stand-up paddleboarding, kayaking, windsurfing, jet-skiing in designated areas, and sunset cruises. Landsports: Tennis, golf, cyclying , football - there is so much you cannot imagine! Wellness: World-class spas, yoga decks, sound therapy, and personalised wellness programmes.

Culinary experiences: Sandbank dinners, overwater restaurants, wine cellars with paired tasting menus, and chef’s table experiences. Conservation & learning: Many resorts have marine biologists on site, offering talks and guided snorkelling trips that help guests understand and respect the delicate ecosystem. You can also weave in special touches such as private cinema screenings under the stars, vow renewals on the beach, or personalised experiences for birthdays and anniversaries.
