When to Visit the Maldives for Manta Rays, and Where to Stay

What is manta season, and why does it matter?

Each year, plankton rich waters attract large numbers of manta rays to specific areas of the Maldives.

The most famous of these is Hanifaru Bay in Baa Atoll, a protected marine area and UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, where dozens of manta rays and even whale sharks can gather at once.

Manta season typically runs from May through to November, with peak sightings often between June and October.
