My Lapland Hints and Tips
Lapland is one of the most magical places you will ever visit, trust me! I took my children, aged 4 and 12 at the time, to Lapland in December 2024 through Canterbury Travel (see previous blog) and it is the holiday we talk about the most often. It always warms my heart when I look back to our photos from those enchanting three nights away. However, as this is a once in a lifetime adventure, you want to make sure you get it right, so I have compiled a few of my ‘hints and tips’ based on my experience to help make your trip even more enjoyable:
*Check what is and, more importantly, what isn’t included with your Lapland holiday. Most companies provide some meals and snow suits/boots however, always check exactly what they will provide so you can plan how you are going to pack.
*Take lots of layers – it is better to take too much than not enough (woolly socks, base layers, ski gloves, snood etc).
*Wear a colourful woolly hat (not black). Generally, everyone will be wearing the same coloured snow suit and so when doing activities, from behind, everyone looks the same. I found it easy to spot my children by the colour of their hat as inevitably, they, along with all the other children in the group, would be running ahead of me in the snow.
*Take a cross body bag which you can wear inside your snow suit. This way, your phone is with you however, it wont get too cold. On the first morning, I put my phone in the cross body bag and wore it over my snow suit – the temps were so cold, my phone shut down within minutes of being outside. After this, I wore it inside of my snow suit and never had this challenge again.
*Hand and foot warmers are a must! They are small enough to carry with you and quick/easy to use to warm up little hands and feet.
*Pack portable snacks such as cereal bars and biscuits to snack on while out and about doing activities.
*Take card/cash with you when out and about in case you see souvenirs.
*Enjoy the moment. Yes, taking photos are important so you can relive the memories back home with friends and family, however, most people who visit Lapland only go once, so take the time to also enjoy these special moments with your loved ones as they happen 😊
