Alicante City break

Combine a city break with a beach stay

Why not experience the gorgeous city of Alicante in Spain and combine with a beach stay

Alicante is a city I keep going back to for short breaks, and it is easy to see why. What makes it so special is the way it combines a proper beach holiday feel with all the charm of a historic Spanish city. You can be standing on an absolutely stunning, golden sandy beach, then within about five minutes you are walking through the city centre, surrounded by culture, shops, cafés and the beautiful castle looking down from the hill above. It has that lovely mix of sea, city and history all in one compact place.

One of the best things about Alicante for a city break is how easy it is to get around. The city is very flat and walkable, so you can comfortably explore without worrying about steep climbs or long journeys. You can wander through the winding streets of the old town, discovering little squares, churches and colourful buildings, then in no time at all you are back by the sea. The Castillo de Santa Bárbara on the hill gives a real sense of place, and even if you just admire it from below, it adds so much character to the skyline.

The marina is another highlight. It is a gorgeous place to sit and spend time, with restaurants where you can enjoy fresh seafood and a glass of wine while looking out over the water and all the beautiful yachts. It feels relaxed and stylish without being pretentious. In the evenings you have plenty of choice too: you can keep it low‑key with a quiet stroll along the promenade, soaking up the sea air and lights along the waterfront, or you can dive into the livelier side of the city and enjoy one of the busy bars if you are in the mood for something more vibrant. That flexibility, being able to choose between a calm, romantic night or a fun, energetic one, is a big part of why Alicante works so well as a repeat city break destination. It is simple, sunny, easy to navigate and always has that lovely combination of beach, city and marina life that keeps drawing you back.Gorgeous side streets, stunning architectureMain square1000 year old treeMushroom street
