An oasis within a ship

A few years ago my husband, my teenage daughter and I decided to do something really special for his 50th birthday, so we booked a Caribbean cruise with the MSC Yacht Club. We started with a few days in Miami, which was full of hustle and bustle and such an exciting build‑up to the cruise. My daughter absolutely loved the vibe: the bright lights, the waterfront, the energy. We stayed at the InterContinental, which overlooks the cruise port, and that turned out to be an amazing choice because we could watch all the ships sailing in and out. Sitting there together, looking out at these huge ships arriving and departing, really added to the sense of anticipation before we boarded our own.

When it was time to join the cruise, we boarded MSC Seaside and went straight into the Yacht Club experience, which honestly felt like stepping into a different world. The best way I can describe it is as a “ship within a ship”. You still get all the facilities and entertainment of a big resort‑style ship, but your own little sanctuary of luxury tucked away on board. From the minute you arrive at the terminal, you feel like a VIP with separate check‑in, a quieter, more exclusive atmosphere and staff who seem to know who you are before you even introduce yourself.

On board, the Yacht Club has its own private areas including a dedicated restaurant, lounge and pool deck. The restaurant has its own menu, different from the main dining room on the rest of the ship, and the food and service really do feel elevated. You still have the flexibility to go out and enjoy the main ship – you can dip into the buffet or the other venues if you fancy a change – but it is lovely knowing you can retreat back to the calm of the Yacht Club whenever you want. There is also a private buffet within the Yacht Club itself if you just want something relaxed and easy without leaving that area.

One of my favourite parts was the Top Sail Lounge, the Yacht Club’s quiet lounge where you can sit and relax with canapés and beautifully made cocktails while looking out over the sea. It feels very grown‑up and special, yet still relaxed enough that our teenage daughter felt completely at ease. She especially loved the feeling of being somewhere “VIP” and a bit exclusive, but still having the freedom to go and enjoy all the fun and activities around the rest of the ship.

The service is really where the Yacht Club comes into its own. You have a butler for your suite, who looks after you throughout the cruise, and that makes such a difference. Little touches like help with unpacking, bringing drinks, making sure you have everything you need and just quietly appearing at the right moment make it feel truly luxurious. Getting on and off the ship in port days is incredibly smooth too. You are escorted past the queues, both when you disembark for the day and when you return, so there is no waiting around. You head straight to the Yacht Club desk and then back on board, which saves so much time and keeps the whole experience feeling seamless.

For a milestone celebration, it was absolutely perfect. We had the buzz and sunshine of Miami, the excitement and facilities of a large Caribbean cruise ship, but with this bubble of calm, high‑end service and privacy in the Yacht Club whenever we wanted it. My husband felt thoroughly spoiled for his 50th, my daughter adored the VIP touches, and we loved it so much that we ended up booking the Yacht Club again the following year, that time in the Mediterranean. It is exactly the kind of experience I recommend to clients who want something extra special: all the fun of a big ship, but wrapped in the comfort and service of a luxury, yacht‑style escape
