St Lucia Beach

Why Saint Lucia for winter sun

Alexa Moore on 30 Apr 2026

Saint Lucia is one of those islands I come back to time and time again when my clients are looking for a winter sun destination.

St Lucia is just perfect if you want more than just a fly-and-flop, the scenery, the food and the overall feel of the island make it something really special. Or if you would prefer to stay within your resort and soak up the views and enjoy the beaches, break up the day with snorkelling and a boat trip just so you can see more of this island paradise.

The Pitons are what most people picture, and they don’t disappoint. Seeing them from the water is a must, or for something more active, hiking Gros Piton with a local guide is a great experience. Where you chosen to stay will really shape your experience here. My families that book with me tend to love The Landings and the Windjammer Landing Resort and Residences – both offer space, great beaches and an easy, relaxed feel.

For something more unique, you would of heard of Jade Mountain, and there is a reason for this - it is hard to beat, with its open-fronted rooms and incredible Piton views, it is very well known as it has featured in many TV shows. Its sister hotel, Anse Chastanet is also just as stunning, it has a more laid-back vibe but just as much character. The food on the island is another highlight – think fresh seafood, bold Creole flavours, and some lovely farm-to-table dining. Arse Chastanet also grow a lot of food on-site.

Get about and about to visit to a cocoa estate is also well worth it, especially if you like doing something a bit different. And one tip I always share… if your budget allows, go for the helicopter transfer from the airport. It saves time and gives you the most incredible first glimpse of the island from above.

St Lucia is It’s a destination I often suggest for February half term or Easter school holidays – warm, easy to reach with the direct British Airways flight, and just that bit more memorable than your average winter sun break.

When to go

The most reliable weather falls between December and April, making it ideal for winter sun and school holidays such as February half term and Easter. May and June can offer good value with fewer visitors, while September and October are best avoided as they typically see higher rainfall. St Lucia is also easy to reach with a direct service from London Gatwick, taking between 8-9 hours.

If you're considering Saint Lucia, get in touch and I can provide you with tailored recommendations based on your travel dates, budget and the style of experience you’re looking for.
