A Week Sailing the Saronic Islands

Eight of us set off on a catamaran from Alimos Marina, near Athens, for a week exploring the Saronic islands. Each day brought somewhere different, but we could travel at our own pace, stop for a swim and enjoy the simple pleasure of being out at sea together.

Our first night was in Perdika on the island of Aegina, where we moored stern to in the harbour. Dinner at Remetzo was a lovely start to the holiday. The following day we sailed to Hydra and anchored in Mandraki Bay. We had time to explore the island and enjoyed a fabulous dinner at Sunset Restaurant.

For our third night, we anchored off the island of Dokos. It was a change of pace after the harbours of Perdika and Hydra, and one of the things I enjoyed most about this trip: waking up on the boat, surrounded by sea, with a new destination ahead. From Dokos, we continued to Poros, where we spent our fourth night at anchor. We even had some thunder and rain there - a memorable moment in an otherwise relaxing week!

Our next two nights were spent around Agistri. First, we anchored off Aponissos, then moved to Skala for another night at anchor before sailing back to Alimos Marina. Staying in two different spots gave us more time to enjoy the island, and by then we had settled happily into the rhythm of life on board.

This trip reminded me why sailing is such a lovely way to explore Greece. In one week we experienced harbour life, peaceful anchorages and several islands, all without having to pack and unpack along the way.
