Thailand with Kids: The Best 2 Week Family Itinerary for 2026

Clare Payne on 15 Oct 2026

Thailand is an outstanding choice for a first (or repeat) long haul family adventure. With warm, child‑friendly hospitality, gorgeous beaches, jungle scenery and a huge range of family focused resorts, it is easy to create a holiday that works just as well for toddlers as it does for teens. Drawing on my own experience of travelling around Thailand with and without my children, I have put together a tried‑and‑tested 2 week family itinerary that works brilliantly for Easter 2026 and beyond.

Thailand is a place I never tire of returning to. Think palm fringed beaches, island hopping days, fragrant street food, jungle scenery and some of the most genuinely welcoming people you will ever meet. Add in fantastic family resorts and ethical wildlife experiences and you have the ideal recipe for a memorable family adventure.

From a professional point of view, Thailand is one of the destinations I am asked about most often for family holidays. Parents love how easy it is to travel around, how well set up the hotels are for children, and how many different styles of itinerary can be created for toddlers, tweens and teenagers.

Over time, one particular two‑week route has become a real favourite with my clients, especially over the Easter school holidays: Phuket, Elephant Hills and Khao Lak, with the option to include a short city break in Singapore or Kuala Lumpur.

If you are planning Thailand with kids for Easter 2026, this 2 week family itinerary is a brilliant place to start.

Why Thailand Is So Good for Family Holidays

When families look for a long‑haul trip with children, Thailand often ticks every box. It manages to feel exotic and different, yet it is surprisingly straightforward once you are there.

Families are usually drawn to Thailand for:

  • Warm, genuine hospitality, especially towards children
  • Beautiful beaches and child‑friendly hotel choices
  • Food that can be as simple or as adventurous as you like
  • Easy access to culture, islands, wildlife and jungle scenery
  • Itineraries that can be tailored to each age and stage

Different regions naturally suit different families: younger children tend to thrive with simple beach time and gentle waves, while older children and teenagers are often ready for snorkelling, kayaking, jungle walks and more off‑the‑beaten‑track adventures.

When To Visit Thailand with Kids

This itinerary focuses on Phuket, Khao Lak and the south‑west coast of Thailand on the Andaman Sea, so timing is important.

For this route, the most favourable months are generally:

November to April

During this period you can usually expect:

  • Warm, settled weather on the Andaman Coast
  • Plenty of sunshine and comfortable sea temperatures
  • Better conditions for boat trips, snorkelling and island days
  • Ideal weather patterns for the Easter holidays

Christmas and New Year also work beautifully here. If you are restricted to travelling in the summer holidays, I will normally suggest a different combination, such as Bangkok and Chiang Mai paired with an island in the Gulf of Thailand, for example Koh Samui, which suits that time of year better.

2 Week Thailand Family Itinerary: At a Glance

For many UK families, a two‑week Thailand holiday during the Easter break might look like this:

  • 5 nights: Phuket or nearby islands
  • 2 nights: Elephant Hills, Khao Sok National Park
  • 5–7 nights: Khao Lak
  • Optional: 2–3 nights in Singapore or Kuala Lumpur

This structure gives you a lovely rhythm: beach and recovery time at the start, adventure and wildlife in the middle, then a slower, more relaxed stretch at the end.

Stop 1: Phuket or the Nearby Islands (5 Nights)

Kamala Beach Phuket Thailand Family TravelMost international flights connect into Phuket, making it a natural starting point for a Thailand with kids itinerary.

Spending your first few nights here lets everyone recover from the journey while still feeling like you have dived straight into Thailand: long sandy bays, warm water, tuk‑tuks and sunset dinners on the beach.

Family‑Friendly Areas in Phuket

  • Kamala Beach: A relaxed, village‑style resort area with a calm bay, beach‑side restaurants and an easygoing feel that works well for younger children.
  • Bang Tao Beach: A sweeping stretch of sand with stylish resorts, a lagoon area and a good choice of cafés and beach clubs.
  • Mai Khao Beach: A quieter, wide beach where many resorts are more spaced out, ideal if you prefer a peaceful base and are happy being resort‑based.

Styles of Family Accommodation in Phuket

Depending on how you like to travel, I might suggest:

  • Beachfront hotels in Kamala with family rooms or suites and direct access to the sand.
  • Low‑rise resorts in Kata and Kata Noi with multiple pools, kids’ clubs and lots of on‑site facilities for a classic “everything in one place” feel.
  • Residence‑style resorts in Mai Khao with two‑bedroom apartments, kitchens and laundry facilities that are perfect for longer family stays.
  • Pool‑villa resorts in the Laguna area if you would like more privacy and space, but still want to be close to a swimmable beach and restaurants.

Once I know your children’s ages, whether you prefer buzzy or quiet, and how much hotel time you tend to have, I can recommend specific properties that suit your style.

Alternative Island Choices

If you would like more of an island focus, there are some excellent options that pair naturally with Phuket:

  • Koh Yao Yai and Koh Yao Noi: Slower‑paced, more traditional islands, ideal for cycling, nature and switching off.
  • Koh Phi Phi: Great for families with older children and teenagers who are excited about snorkelling, boat trips and dramatic limestone scenery.
  • Islands just off Phuket: “Castaway” style resorts a short boat ride away, giving you that over water arrival without long transfers.

Phuket with Kids: Things To Do

From a family point of view, Phuket works very well as an excursion base. Popular options include:

  • Boat trips around Phang Nga Bay, often including the famous “James Bond” viewpoint
  • Day trips to the Phi Phi Islands for beaches and snorkelling
  • Gentle island hopping tours with picnic stops and swimming
  • Water parks and evening cultural shows

I can help you choose trips that are the right length and pace for your children, and that fit with your arrival and departure days.

Stop 2: Elephant Hills, Khao Sok National Park (2 Nights)

Elephant Hills Thailand Luxury Tented Camp

Moving inland to Elephant Hills changes the mood of the holiday completely and is often the part that children talk about for months afterwards.

Khao Sok National Park, around a couple of hours north of Phuket by road, is one of the world’s oldest rainforests: a landscape of emerald lakes, towering limestone cliffs and dense jungle, alive with birdlife and monkeys.

Elephant Hills offers an African‑inspired camp experience in the Thai rainforest, with comfortable tents, guided activities and a strong focus on elephant welfare. It fits beautifully as a two or three night section between Phuket and Khao Lak.

Ethical Elephant Encounters

A key reason I recommend Elephant Hills so often is its responsible approach:

  • No elephant riding
  • No performance style shows
  • Supervised, respectful contact such as preparing food and observing behaviour
  • Education around conservation and welfare

Families come away with a far deeper understanding of these animals and their environment.

Two‑Camp Experience

Elephant Hills Khao Sok National Park Thailand Fmaily Travel Kayaking

For families, the combination that works especially well is:

  • 1 night at Jungle Camp
  • 1 night at the floating Lake Camp on Cheow Lan Lake

At Jungle Camp, you stay in comfortable tents on raised platforms surrounded by rainforest. Activities might include canoeing along the Sok River, wildlife spotting, guided walks and evening cultural performances.

Elephant Hills Khao Sok National Park Thailand Lake Camp

At the floating Lake Camp, simple but cosy rooms sit on wooden decks right on the water. Days are spent exploring by longtail boat, swimming straight from the decks, paddling kayaks into quiet coves and joining guided walks to hidden viewpoints.

The set‑up is highly organised, but still feels adventurous, which is a lovely balance when travelling with children.

In general, Elephant Hills is recommended for children from 7 years and upwards, largely because of the journey, activity level and floating accommodation. It is particularly popular with older primary age children and teens.

Stop 3: Khao Lak (5–7 Nights)

Khao Lak Beach Thailand Family Travel

After the jungle and lakes of Khao Sok, returning to the coast at Khao Lak gives you time to slow down and simply enjoy being together.

Khao Lak is one of my top recommendations for families who want a more laid back alternative to Phuket, without being too remote. The beaches are long and often less crowded, and there is a friendly, small town feel.

You can expect:

  • Golden sand beaches with gentle waves at many times of year
  • A mix of international style resorts and smaller beachfront hotels
  • Local restaurants, cafés and night markets within easy reach
  • A relaxed atmosphere that suits both younger children and teenagers

Khao Lak with Kids: Activities

From Khao Lak, you can easily add in:

  • Boat trips to the Similan Islands for clear water and snorkelling (seasonal)
  • Turtle conservation visits at certain times of year
  • Thai boxing demonstrations and entry‑level classes suitable for older children
  • Thai cookery classes that families can join together
  • Browsing the night markets for souvenirs, snacks and little treats

Types of Family Stays in Khao Lak

Depending on your preferences, I might look at:

  • Larger beachfront resorts with water slides and splash zones, ideal if your children are happiest around the pool.
  • Elegant properties with lagoon style pools and family suites, perfect if you want a slightly more grown up feel with strong family facilities.
  • Centrally located beachfront hotels so that you can walk to markets, cafés and restaurants rather than relying on taxis each evening.

Matching the right style of property to your family makes a huge difference to how relaxing your Thailand holiday feels day to day.

Optional City Stopover: Singapore or Kuala Lumpur (2–3 Nights)

Singapore Stop over Gardens by the Bay Family TravelIf you would like to extend your 2 week Thailand family itinerary into a wider Asian adventure, a short stopover in Singapore or Kuala Lumpur works beautifully, either on the way out or on the way home.

Singapore with Kids

Singapore is one of the easiest cities to explore with children:

  • Iconic attractions like Gardens by the Bay, Marina Bay and Sentosa Island
  • Family favourites such as Universal Studios and S.E.A. Aquarium
  • Spotlessly clean, efficient public transport
  • A wide choice of family‑friendly hotels in safe, central areas

Two or three nights is usually perfect to enjoy the main highlights at a relaxed pace.

Kuala Lumpur with Kids

Kuala Lumpur brings a slightly different flavour:

  • The impressive Petronas Towers and sky high viewpoints
  • Colourful markets and excellent street food
  • Shopping malls with indoor theme style attractions and play areas
  • Day trips out to nearby caves or nature spots

Both cities link smoothly with southern Thailand, so we can look at flights that make the journey feel as seamless as possible.

Planning Your Thailand Family Holiday for 2026

Thailand continues to be one of the most rewarding long haul destinations for families: friendly people, varied landscapes, excellent food and a huge range of child‑friendly hotels and experiences.

This combination of Phuket, Elephant Hills and Khao Lak, with the option to add Singapore or Kuala Lumpur, has become a signature Thailand with kids itinerary for many of my clients. It offers just the right mix of beach time, wildlife, culture and relaxation, without feeling rushed or over scheduled.
