Why A Twin‑Centre Family Holiday in Greece Is Perfect: Villa Week Plus Ikos Kissamos

A flexible, great‑value way to enjoy Greece: combining a villa stay with an Ikos resort for your next family holiday

Denise Carter on 14 Aug 2026

A twin‑centre break in Greece turned out to be the perfect holiday for us: a relaxed week in a private villa with our 18‑year‑old son and his friend, followed by a pampering stay at Ikos Kissamos as a family of three. We mixed lazy days by our own pool with evenings in local tavernas, then swapped cooking and food shopping for the ease of luxury all inclusive. If you are curious about how a villa and resort combination can work for families with older teens, and why it is such a clever way to make the most of your flights and your time away, here is how our trip worked.

This summer we tried something a little different for our family holiday to Greece: a twin‑centre stay with a week in a private Greek villa, followed by a stay at the beautiful Ikos Kissamos. It turned out to be the perfect blend of laid‑back self catering and effortless luxury all inclusive, and I am already wondering why we have not done it this way before.

For the first week it was myself, my husband, our 18‑year‑old son and his friend. Then, for the Ikos part, it was just the three of us. Two very different styles of Greek holiday, one gorgeous setting, and a rhythm that suited us down to the ground.

Week One: Villa Living, Freedom And A Taste Of Local Greek Life

There is something very special about unlocking the door to “your” villa in Greece for the week. That moment when you drop the bags, slide open the patio doors and step out to your own pool, your own sun loungers and that first hit of warm Greek air.

Our villa week in Greece was all about:

  • Slow, lazy mornings: coffee and fresh pastries on the terrace, still in pyjamas, with no buffet closing times and no battle for sunbeds at 6 am.
  • Pool days on our own terms: our son and his friend could be in and out of the water all day, with music on in the background and inflatables everywhere, and the only people they might disturb were us.
  • Local shopping and easy, relaxed meals: we loved wandering down to the little shops for fresh bread, cheeses, olives and tomatoes, then throwing together simple lunches and barbecues.
  • Eating in and eating out: we had the best of both worlds here too. Some evenings we stayed in and cooked simple food at the villa or fired up the barbecue and lingered over dinner on the terrace. Other nights we headed out to nearby Greek tavernas, discovering our favourite spots for grilled fish, Greek salads and those lovely long, chatty meals you only seem to have on holiday.
  • Independence for older teens: because our son and his friend are 18, they had that lovely sense of freedom. They could wander off to explore local tavernas and beach clubs, then drift back to the villa when they were ready. They had independence, we had peace of mind knowing they were close, and everyone was happy.

Villa life gave us space to spread out and completely unwind, and it really suited having older teens with us. It felt like we were living in Greece for a week rather than just passing through. As much as I enjoy that independence, after a week of thinking about food shopping, cooking and tidying up, I was very ready to hand over the reins.

Week Two: Sliding Effortlessly Into All Inclusive At Ikos Kissamos

Leaving the villa and arriving at Ikos Kissamos felt like switching into another, very pampered gear. We waved our son’s friend off and it was just myself, my husband and our son for the second part of the twin‑centre Greece holiday. The bags were whisked away, welcome drinks appeared, and suddenly I did not have to think about what was for dinner, where to buy milk, or whose turn it was to stack the dishwasher.

The contrast was exactly what we needed:

  • No more meal planning: breakfasts became leisurely affairs with everything laid out for us. Lunch could be by the pool, by the beach or in one of the restaurants, and dinner was simply a case of choosing where we fancied that evening.
  • All the little treats, none of the faff: from cocktails and mocktails to desserts and snacks, it was all there, all taken care of. I could say yes to that extra iced coffee or glass of wine without doing mental sums about the bill.
  • Plenty for teens to enjoy: our son loved the extra buzz of the resort, with more going on around the pool and beach and the option to dip into activities when he wanted to. With everything on site, he had freedom and fun, and we had time to properly switch off.
  • Time together, properly: without cooking, cleaning or shopping, we could actually focus on each other. Evening walks, long dinners, watching the sun set over the sea: all those little moments that make a luxury family holiday in Greece feel special.

Ikos resorts have that way of making you feel completely looked after, but what I loved most was how Ikos Kissamos followed on from the villa. We had already had that “live like a local” week with the boys enjoying their independence and us discovering our favourite little tavernas, so by the time we arrived at the resort we were genuinely ready to be spoiled.

Why This Greek Twin-Centre Worked So Well For Us

Doing the villa first and Ikos second created a lovely flow to the holiday:

  • Villa first, resort second: we burned off the “we’re on holiday!” excitement in our own space, settled into Greek time, and then arrived at Ikos ready to fully enjoy the luxury and the all inclusive.
  • Two holidays in one: week one felt like a relaxed, sociable friends‑and‑family escape, week two felt like a polished, five‑star Ikos luxury holiday.
  • Perfect for families with older teens: our son and his friend had space and freedom at the villa to come and go to local tavernas and beach clubs, then we switched into more family‑focused time at the resort.
  • Balance of flexibility and convenience: we had the freedom of self catering when it suited us, and then the ease of all inclusive when we were ready not to make another decision about food.

Another thing I talk to my clients about when planning a family holiday to Greece is value for money. In many cases, flights to Greece cost a similar amount whether you go for 7 nights, 10 nights or 14 nights. So if you are paying for those flights anyway, it can make real sense to stretch the number of nights and make more of the trip, especially if you are happy to mix different styles of accommodation with a twin‑centre itinerary.

Villas typically like to work in 7 or 14 night blocks, which is perfect if you only want those exact durations but can be limiting if, for example, you fancy 10 or 12 nights. By twinning a Greek villa with a hotel or Ikos resort, we can create a Greece twin‑centre holiday that works around you rather than the other way round. For example, you might do:

  • 5 nights in a villa and 5 nights in a hotel
  • 7 nights in a villa and 4 nights in an Ikos resort
  • Or a longer stay where we play with the balance to suit school dates, work commitments or a special celebration

It reminded me that a perfect holiday does not have to be one single style or one set duration. Sometimes, blending two experiences and being a bit more flexible with nights gives you the best of both worlds, especially for a family holiday in Greece.

Could A Greek Twin-Centre With Ikos Work For Your Family Holiday?

If you like the idea of:

  • A week of space, privacy and lazy villa days in Greece, where older teens can enjoy a bit of independence and you can choose between cooking in or heading out to local tavernas, followed by
  • A week of total ease in a luxury all inclusive Ikos resort, where you do not have to think about anything at all,

then a twin‑centre holiday in Greece might be just what you are looking for. It works especially well for families with teenagers, mixed groups, or anyone who simply wants a holiday that feels like two different getaways wrapped into one.

Flight costs are often similar regardless of whether you stay for 7, 10 or 14 nights, it can be surprisingly good value to turn a simple one‑week break into a longer, more flexible Greek twin‑centre.By pairing a villa, which usually works in 7‑night blocks, with a hotel or Ikos resort, we can build a tailor‑made family holiday in Greece that fits any duration you have in mind.
