Those who panic-buy wrapping paper on Christmas Eve...

...and those who are happily wandering through a twinkling European Christmas market with a mug of mulled wine in hand.

Christmas market breaks have become one of the most popular winter getaways, and it's easy to see why. Picture fairy lights, festive music, delicious local food and beautiful city squares that look as though they've stepped straight out of a Christmas film.

But with so many incredible destinations across Europe, where should you go?

Here are a few of my favourites.

❤️ For Romance

If you're planning a magical getaway with someone special, Vienna is hard to beat. Elegant Christmas markets, cosy cafés and horse-drawn carriages make it the perfect destination for couples.

👨‍👩‍👧 For Families

Copenhagen is packed with festive magic, especially at Tivoli Gardens. It's a wonderful choice if you're travelling with children and want to experience Christmas at its most enchanting.

🍷 For Food Lovers

Budapest combines festive markets with hearty Hungarian dishes, delicious chimney cakes and warming mulled wine. Come hungry!

📸 For Picture-Perfect Moments

Prague is one of Europe's most photographed Christmas destinations, and once you see the Old Town Square sparkling beneath thousands of lights, you'll understand why.

✨ Looking for Something Different?

If you like discovering places before everyone else does, I'd highly recommend Gdańsk. Charming, festive and excellent value, it's one of Europe's hidden Christmas gems.

The truth is, there isn't one "best" Christmas market. The right destination depends entirely on the type of festive break you're dreaming about.
