ANDALUCIAN ADVENTURE

SEVILLE, CORDOBA, RONDA AND MALAGA.

Flying from Aberdeen does not have to limit your sense of adventure. With a little insider knowledge and clever planning, you can swap lengthy connections for a seamless escape to sun, culture and incredible food. Recently I set myself a challenge: to see how far I could go using direct flights from Aberdeen. The result was a 10‑day journey through Andalucia, taking in four very different Spanish cities by train and bus. Here is how I did it.

Seville

Upon arriving in Malaga, we took a quick train from the airport into the city to connect with our train to Seville. I really enjoyed exploring this vibrant Spanish city and spent a few days visiting the Royal Alcazar palace complex and the cathedral. I went up to the top of Las Setas to catch the sunset and enjoy a fantastic light show.

The streets of the old town are full of little shops, tapas bars and restaurants, making it a great place to wander. As the birthplace of flamenco, the sound of guitar music seems to float through the city. The Plaza de España is another must‑visit spot, where you can spend some time and may even catch a flamenco show on the steps.

Cordoba

The next destination on the trip was Cordoba, renowned for its magnificent Grand Mosque. The old town has been granted World Heritage status. Narrow, cobbled streets slowly reveal their secrets of flower‑filled courtyards (Los Patios) and fantastic bars and restaurants.

With its rich history and characterful charm, Cordoba is a city that should not be missed on any visit to Andalucia. It is easily accessed by train from Seville in around 45 minutes.

Ronda

During our train journey to Ronda, we were treated to stunning views of the mountains and the Tajo Gorge. I had seen this place on TV, so I was thrilled to finally visit in person. It did not disappoint: every corner we turned revealed a breathtaking scene.

The town is easily explored on foot, with many picturesque walks to take in the views. We were fortunate to be among the first to experience the initial phase of the Camino del Desfiladero del Tajo. I am looking forward to returning to complete the full route once it is finished.

Malaga

From Ronda, we headed back to Malaga by bus and spent a few days exploring the city. Malaga’s old town is rich in history, and the Picasso Museum is a must‑visit. The city has its own beach and is close to the Costa del Sol beaches, which are reachable by train.

It is an ideal destination for a quick city break in the sun, all from your doorstep in Aberdeen.

I had a fantastic time exploring this captivating region of Spain, which offers so much to see and do. I am excited to discover where my next adventure will take me next.
