Valiant Lady - She's definitely unique!

I spent a day on Virgin Voyages’ Valiant Lady and it confirmed what I suspected, this is not your typical cruise ship.

No kids. No dress codes. No set dining times. No forced fun. It feels far more like a modern, adults‑only hotel with a cheeky streak that just happens to wake up somewhere new every few days.

If your idea of a cruise is buffets, ballgowns and captain’s tables, park that. This is for the city‑break crowd who love good food, late nights and stylish spaces.

First Impressions: Definitely Not Traditional

Walk on and it hits you straight away, bold art, cool lighting, big squishy chairs and a proper soundtrack. No one dragging you into awkward photos, no paper newsletters, no one barking announcements every five minutes.

You’re shown the app, then trusted to explore. It feels relaxed, grown‑up and instantly less “organised fun” and more “do your own thing”.

Cabins: Clever, Cosy And With THAT Hammock

Cabins feel more like smart hotel rooms than ship cabins:

• Beds that flip into sofas so you’ve got more space in the day.
• Sea Terrace balconies with the famous red hammock, which is every bit as perfect for a nap (and a photo) as it looks.
• Lighting, curtains and entertainment controlled from a tablet, perfect if you love a bit of tech.
• Bigger RockStar suites for those who like a bit of drama and a big terrace.

If you want clean, modern and easy rather than fussy and formal, I reckon you’ll be very happy here.

Food: Eating “Out Out” At Sea

Valiant Lady ditches the big main dining room and the buffet in favour of smaller restaurants that feel like places you’d book at home:

• Experimental tasting menus at Test Kitchen.
• Bold, fun, plant‑forward dishes at Razzle Dazzle.
• Classic steakhouse‑style dinners and brunch at The Wake.

Most are included, so it feels more like restaurant‑hopping than “doing the dining room”. Ideal if you plan holidays around where you are going to eat.

Nights: Cocktails, Shows And A Little Bit Of Mischief

Evenings are where Valiant Lady really leans into the Virgin personality.

There are buzzy bars, quieter corners, DJ sets and entertainment that feels more festival fringe than cruise production show. You can go big and stay out late, or keep it low‑key with a glass of wine and a view.

No ballgowns, no enforced “formal night”, just a ship full of adults enjoying themselves.

Balance: Gym, Spa, Sun & Sea

Here I’d normally skip, but for you I did a bit of research, so for anyone who likes to balance the cocktails with something vaguely healthy (yes these people do exist apparently), there is a proper gym, outdoor workout space and a modern spa with thermal areas and treatment rooms.

The pool deck feels more beach club than ship: daybeds, music, sea views and, crucially, no kids’ splash zones, I did actually love these areas.

Who It Suits

From my visit, Valiant Lady is perfect for:

• 30‑ to 50‑somethings (and the young at heart) who love city breaks, good restaurants and a bit of nightlife.
• Couples, friends and solos looking for a child‑free escape.
• Self‑confessed “non‑cruisers” who like the idea of seeing more than one place without repacking every two minutes.

If you’d normally book an adults‑only hotel in the Med or Caribbean, but fancy trying something different, Valiant Lady is a very strong contender.
