Last week I was invited to experience the incredible Babylonstoren in the Cape Winelands and I was absolutely wowed.
This is so much more than a wine estate or a working farm: it feels like its own little luxury village, where every detail has been carefully and lovingly thought through.From the moment you arrive, Babylonstoren feels different. There is a real sense of calm and space, with vineyards, orchards and gardens all working together as part of a living, breathing farm. To make it even more special, they have their own herd of buffalo on site. Their buffalo milk is used in various products, including their now‑famous “buffachino,” which you can try at the estate’s coffee shop. What I particularly loved is that Babylonstoren creates so many of its own bath, body and essential oil products. It means you are surrounded by the scents and textures of the estate, from your room through to the spa and the shops.
Thoughtfully designed accommodation
The accommodation at Babylonstoren continues the theme of understated, elegant luxury. Every space feels carefully considered, from the furnishings to the views. Each room comes with complimentary bicycles so you can explore the estate at your own pace. Cycling through the vineyards or along the farm paths is such a lovely way to start or end the day.If you are staying in one of the private Fynbos cottages, you also have your own golf buggy to get around. It adds a fun and very convenient touch, especially if you want to move between the spa, restaurants, shops and your cottage without rushing.
One of the things that makes Babylonstoren so special is the number of activities that are included on a complimentary basis for guests. There are plenty of ways to connect with the farm, the gardens and the wider estate, so you feel like you are part of the rhythm of the place rather than just passing through.
