Mauritius, its good to be back

Beachcomber Canonnier

My first visit back to paradise since 2023

here’s something very special about returning to a destination you already love, especially when it still manages to surprise you.
I’ve just come back from a week at Beachcomber Canonnier in Mauritius, my first visit since 2023, and while the warm welcome and familiar charm were exactly as I remembered, this trip gave me a completely new perspective on the island.
Because Mauritius,  It’s so much more than just a beach destination.

Set on a stunning peninsula surrounded by crystal clear waters, Beachcomber Canonnier remains one of the most characterful resorts on the island.
What I love most is how it blends history with tropical beauty, think ancient fortifications, cannons hidden among lush gardens, and panoramic ocean views at every turn. The atmosphere is relaxed yet polished, making it perfect for both couples and families. And it’s constantly evolving too this time, I had the chance to experience the brand new padel courts, which are a fantastic addition. It’s great to see the resort continuing to innovate while staying true to its roots. And of course, the spa in the banyan tree remains as magical as ever, an experience that truly sets Canonnier apart.

While the beaches are undeniably beautiful (and yes, I made the most of them), this trip was all about exploring more of what Mauritius has to offer, and it absolutely delivered. I spent time in Grand Baie, one of the island’s most vibrant coastal hubs. It’s a great mix of lively energy, boutique shopping, and waterfront dining but one of the real highlights was spotting the resident stingrays gliding through the shallow waters. A completely unexpected and unforgettable moment.
From there, I ventured into the capital, Port Louis. It’s a fascinating contrast to the resort areas—busy, colourful, and rich in culture. Markets, street food, and a real sense of everyday Mauritian life make it well worth a visit.
The island’s natural beauty is equally impressive. A visit to the botanical gardens offered a peaceful escape, with towering palms and giant water lilies creating a serene setting. Then there’s Black River Gorges National Park, a must for nature lovers. Think lush forests, sweeping viewpoints, and incredible hiking opportunities. It’s here that Mauritius really shows its wild side.
And then, the waterfalls. Chasing waterfalls across the island was easily one of my favourite experiences, each one more beautiful than the last, hidden within tropical landscapes that feel a world away from the beach.

Mauritius is incredibly diverse, and that’s reflected in its cultural landmarks.
The Red Roof Chapel is every bit as picturesque as you’d expect, set against the vivid blues of the ocean, it’s one of the island’s most photographed spots for good reason.
Le Morne, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is another standout. Dramatic, powerful, and steeped in history, it’s one of the most iconic locations on the island. Whether viewed from the beach or explored up close, it leaves a lasting impression.
I also visited several temples during my stay, offering a glimpse into the island’s rich spiritual heritage. The blend of cultures in Mauritius is something that truly defines it and experiencing that firsthand adds so much depth to any visit.

This trip reminded me just how much Mauritius has to offer. Yes, it’s perfect for relaxation. Yes, the beaches are stunning. But if you’re willing to explore, you’ll discover an island full of life, culture, adventure, and natural beauty.

For my clients, this is exactly why I love recommending Mauritius, it can be as relaxed or as active as you want it to be.
And returning to Beachcomber Canonnier only reinforced why it remains such a favourite. It’s a place that feels familiar yet fresh, classic yet evolving and the perfect base from which to explore this incredible island.
If Mauritius has ever been on your list, consider this your sign to experience it properly.

Because trust me, there’s so much more waiting beyond the beach.
