Gorilla Trekking in Uganda
Trekking the misty gorilla trails of Uganda
Towering volcanoes, emerald hills and dense, whispering rainforest: trekking in Uganda feels like stepping into the very heartbeat of Africa. This is a place where every trail tells a story, from mist‑shrouded paths that lead to wild mountain gorillas, to high-altitude routes threading through the fabled “Mountains of the Moon”. Along the way you will meet warm, welcoming communities, stumble on hidden crater lakes, and watch the landscape shift from tea plantations to jungle and alpine meadows. Whether you are a seasoned hiker or lacing up your boots for the first time, Uganda’s trails promise not just adventure, but a deeper connection with nature, conservation and culture.

It is hard to put it into words, it truly is a place that has to be experienced to understand the awe and magic.
<p style="box-sizing: border-box; margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 1rem; font-feature-settings: "dlig"; font-size: 16px; line-height: 25px; color: rgb(48, 48, 48); font-family: "Plus Jakarta Sans"; font-style: normal; font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; font-weight: 400; letter-spacing: normal; orphans: 2; text-align: left; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; widows: 2; word-spacing: 0px; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; white-space: normal; background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255); text-decoration-thickness: initial; text-decoration-style: initial; text-decoration-color: initial;">We chose Uganda for our Gorilla trek destination for a few reasons. Firstly it is less crowded and the groups on the trek are much smaller. There was only our family and another couple on our trek. Uganda also has a very diverse and stunning landscape. They have a big focus on conversation and that is a big thing for my family. Uganda also has lower permit fee's.
<p style="box-sizing: border-box; margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 1rem; font-feature-settings: "dlig"; font-size: 16px; line-height: 25px; color: rgb(48, 48, 48); font-family: "Plus Jakarta Sans"; font-style: normal; font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; font-weight: 400; letter-spacing: normal; orphans: 2; text-align: left; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; widows: 2; word-spacing: 0px; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; white-space: normal; background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255); text-decoration-thickness: initial; text-decoration-style: initial; text-decoration-color: initial;">Gorilla trekking is the ultimate bucket list hike and it is easy to see why. What to expect on the day - you will wake up in your authentic lodge to a beautiful sunrise over the mountains. Enjoy a delicious breakfast (included in the price) then you head off to Bwindi Forest. When we arrived we were treated to a traditional dance and singing from the local villagers. This was a special experience. Afterwards the villagers explained their history and how they moved from the centre of the forest to keep the gorillas home safe. After an introduction from the rangers, a video about trekking and conservation and the rules you are put into your group.
<p style="box-sizing: border-box; margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 1rem; font-feature-settings: "dlig"; font-size: 16px; line-height: 25px; color: rgb(48, 48, 48); font-family: "Plus Jakarta Sans"; font-style: normal; font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; font-weight: 400; letter-spacing: normal; orphans: 2; text-align: left; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; widows: 2; word-spacing: 0px; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; white-space: normal; background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255); text-decoration-thickness: initial; text-decoration-style: initial; text-decoration-color: initial;">The trek - You are assisted on your blog by 2 rangers and 2 armed security guards. The terrain can be tough with uneven sections and high altitude. We walked for 1.5 hours to find our gorilla group, but there isn't a set time as it just depends where they are. The group all stick together so please don't worry if you need to take your time. Our son is a wheelchair user and he was carried by porters up and down the mountain for $200. This is great as it means those with little or no mobility are able to enjoy the trek and it also gives a wage to local villagers.
<p style="box-sizing: border-box; margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 1rem; font-feature-settings: "dlig"; font-size: 16px; line-height: 25px; color: rgb(48, 48, 48); font-family: "Plus Jakarta Sans"; font-style: normal; font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; font-weight: 400; letter-spacing: normal; orphans: 2; text-align: left; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; widows: 2; word-spacing: 0px; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; white-space: normal; background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255); text-decoration-thickness: initial; text-decoration-style: initial; text-decoration-color: initial;">Getting to the gorillas - We were met by the silverback first. He was stood just 3 feet away! I can't even describe the emotions I had when I first saw him, it was breath taking. He then moved through the forest and lead us to his group. There were 2 more males, 4 females and 3 babies. Watching them eat, play, groom and rest in their natural habitat is the best experience I have had when travelling. It will live with me forever. We got to spend nearly 2 hours with our group. The female gorillas walked right by us, one even flicking her hand out onto my leg. The babies were very curious but were warned by the silverback if they got too close. All in all it was nothing short of amazing and I would recommend this experience to anyone. Regardless of age or mobility, this trek is open to all.
<p style="box-sizing: border-box; margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 1rem; font-feature-settings: "dlig"; font-size: 16px; line-height: 25px; color: rgb(48, 48, 48); font-family: "Plus Jakarta Sans"; font-style: normal; font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; font-weight: 400; letter-spacing: normal; orphans: 2; text-align: left; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; widows: 2; word-spacing: 0px; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; white-space: normal; background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255); text-decoration-thickness: initial; text-decoration-style: initial; text-decoration-color: initial;">By embarking on a gorilla trek you are supporting the conservation of gorillas and surrounding wildlife. There have been no poacher attacks in recent years and in the last 15 years the population as doubled.
<p style="box-sizing: border-box; margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 1rem; font-feature-settings: "dlig"; font-size: 16px; line-height: 25px; color: rgb(48, 48, 48); font-family: "Plus Jakarta Sans"; font-style: normal; font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; font-weight: 400; letter-spacing: normal; orphans: 2; text-align: left; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; widows: 2; word-spacing: 0px; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; white-space: normal; background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255); text-decoration-thickness: initial; text-decoration-style: initial; text-decoration-color: initial;">If anyone would like anymore information on the trek or would like to enquire about booking a trek, please get in touch.
