Package holidays: not what they used to be (and why that really matters)

Say “package holiday” and a lot of people still picture the 80s and 90s: big coaches, set changeover days, welcome meetings by the pool and the same hotel as everyone else.

There is nothing wrong with a bit of nostalgia, but it does not reflect what a modern package actually is anymore. Today, “package” is far less about coaches and reps, and far more about how your holiday is put together and protected behind the scenes.

In other words: you can absolutely have a stylish, tailor-made trip that still comes with the extra protection of a package.

The old image: package holidays in the 80s and 90s

For many of us, package holidays used to mean:

• Travelling on the same flight day as everyone else
• A big shared coach transfer that stopped at every hotel on the strip
• A standard hotel that the big operators all used
• A rep with a clipboard and welcome meetings in the bar
• Organised pool games and “one size fits all” entertainment

If that is what you still imagine, it is completely understandable. That model was everywhere for a long time.

But the travel world has changed, and so has the way we can build and protect your holidays.

The reality now: what a modern package can look like

Today, the word “package” describes the way your holiday is structured and protected, rather than the style of trip you choose.

A modern package can be:

• A boutique city break with a beautiful design hotel and private transfers
• A luxury beach escape with upgraded room types, adults-only areas and fine dining
• A multi-centre adventure combining, for example, a few nights in a city with time on the coast or in the countryside
• A cruise or touring itinerary, with time on land before or after your sailing or tour
• A villa stay with car hire and experiences arranged in advance

Together we choose your dates, duration, destinations, style of accommodation and the little extras that matter to you. Then I bring everything together into one protected package booking.

So you are not choosing between “package” and “tailor-made”. The right package lets you have both: a tailor-made holiday wrapped in protection.

Why the “package” part is so important

This is the side you do not always see, but it is the reason I talk so much about booking a protected package rather than lots of separate elements.

When your flights, accommodation and key services are combined into a package, you benefit from:

1. Financial protection

If something goes wrong with one of the major elements of your holiday, you have a much stronger framework of protection than if you had booked everything separately. Your money is better protected, and there are clear rules about what should happen next.

2. One point of contact

Instead of juggling multiple airlines, hotels and websites, you have one booking and one person to talk to: me.
If something needs to change, you do not have to spend hours on hold or fighting with different terms and conditions.

3. Support if plans change

Flight changes, cancellations, strikes, unexpected events: travel can be unpredictable. With a protected package, there are clearer responsibilities and I can work on your behalf to rearrange and resolve things as smoothly as possible.

4. Clarity and simplicity

You know exactly what is included and what is protected under your booking. It is far less stressful than managing a flight here, a hotel there, and various extras that might all have different rules.

In short: a protected package is about peace of mind. You get to enjoy the fun parts of travel, knowing there is structure and support behind the scenes if you ever need it.

So do I. That is the whole point.

The difference is simply that I then bring those elements together in a way that gives you maximum protection and convenience, rather than leaving everything scattered across separate bookings.
