Tarangire National Park Safari

Although it doesn't receive quite as much attention as the Serengeti, Tarangire is one of Tanzania's hidden gems.

It's particularly famous for its huge elephant herds and ancient baobab trees.

Tanzania's Northern Circuit Safari

If you're visiting Tanzania for the first time, there's a good chance you'll be travelling along what's known as the Northern Circuit Safari.

This is Tanzania's most popular safari route and combines several of the country's most spectacular national parks into one unforgettable itinerary.

The important thing is choosing accommodation that fits the route, the season and the experience you’re hoping to have.

Luxury Safari Lodges

Tanzania has some exceptional luxury safari lodges, particularly around the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater.

These tend to offer:

They’re ideal if you want high levels of comfort, strong service and a more polished safari experience.

Luxury Tented Camps

A good tented camp gives you the atmosphere of a classic safari without asking you to sacrifice comfort or safety.

If you’re hoping to witness the Great Migration, a mobile or seasonal camp can be a superb choice.

These camps move or open in specific areas depending on where the wildlife is expected to be, helping position you closer to the action at the right time of year.

They’re particularly useful in the Serengeti, where the herds move between different regions throughout the year.

Tent With A View

Their style is particularly well suited to travellers who want something a little more adventurous and authentic, while still having proper comfort and expert local support.

This kind of camp won’t suit everyone. If you want polished, ultra-luxury lodge style with every possible facility, there are other options.

But if you like the idea of a luxury tented safari with character, atmosphere and a stronger sense of being properly out in the wild, it could be a very good fit.

For a first Tanzania safari, I’d usually suggest a mix.
