Our Escape to Fuerteventura: Sun, Sea and Seamless Relaxation
Iberostar Selection Fuertventura Palace
In August 2026, my husband, our two girls and I escaped to Fuerteventura for a much-needed dose of sunshine, sea air and proper relaxation. We chose the Iberostar Selection Fuerteventura Palace in Jandía, and from the moment we arrived it felt every bit the 5 star treat we had hoped for. This is a beautifully designed, contemporary hotel that feels very much geared towards adults and teens. It has a calm, grown-up atmosphere without ever feeling stuffy. Everywhere we went, from the light-filled lobby to the pool terraces and restaurants, was immaculate. It became clear very quickly that this was going to be one of those holidays we would talk about for a long time.
Pool Days and the Comfiest Sunloungers Ever
Let’s start with one of the most important things to me on holiday: a comfortable sunlounger. Iberostar Selection Fuerteventura Palace absolutely nailed it. The main pool area is gorgeous, with shimmering water and 'beach entry' style. Around it you’ll find huge Balinese beds and really good quality loungers that are honestly some of the comfiest I’ve ever experienced. For someone who can’t relax if they are wriggling around on a hard plastic bed, it made such a difference. I could genuinely sink in with a book while the girls dipped in and out of the pool, and actually feel my shoulders drop. The whole pool area felt spotless, calm and stylish. It had that sophisticated but relaxed vibe that works perfectly if you are travelling with older children or teens who are happy chilling, swimming and enjoying the scene rather than needing constant “little kids” activities.

Beach Dreams at Al Mar Bar
The beach.... absolute bliss! Our absolute favourite spot in the whole hotel was the Al Mar bar, perched above the beach. From here you look out over what honestly felt like a Caribbean scene: soft, white sand stretching for miles, turquoise water, and almost no crowds. It was peaceful, uncrowded and completely breathtaking, especially in the soft light of early evening. We spent so many happy moments here, sipping drinks, reading and soaking up the view. It became our go-to place for that magical golden hour, when the beach was quiet and the whole sky seemed to glow.

Food Heaven
The food was a real highlight and focuses on good quality and variety. The main restaurant offered more choice than I’ve ever seen at any hotel buffet previously. There were beautiful fresh salads, local specialities, cooked-to-order dishes and lots of options for more adventurous eaters. The stars of the show for us were the fresh fish and the steaks cooked to order right in front of you. It felt far more like a collection of live cooking stations than a standard buffet. We also loved the Al Mar à la carte restaurant, which was genuinely superb. It has a laid-back beach hut vibe that makes it feel effortlessly relaxed yet still special, and the food was excellent: beautifully presented, full of flavour and exactly what you want after a day in the sun. It was one of those evenings where you look around the table, everyone is happy, and you just think: this is exactly what we came for. The staff here were particulalry amazing at catering for our girls, who both have severe nut allergies. We spoke to the chef in advance and ordered 'off menu' options for the girls, the service and care taken here was exceptional and truly appreciated.

Cocktails, Coffee and Daily Rituals
To get to the point.... the drinks were epic. The bartenders really took pride in their creations, and the fresh fruit cocktails were to die for: colourful, refreshing and beautifully presented, perfect for lingering at the bar or by the pool. There is also a lovely coffee shop, which quickly became part of my daily routine. After a session in the gym (which is well equipped and a great bonus if you like to keep moving on holiday), I would wander over and treat myself to an iced latte which is my 'post work out' treat

Grown-up Entertainment That Won Us Over
I’ll be honest: I’m not usually a fan of hotel entertainment but Iberostar Selection Fuerteventura Palace completely changed my mind. The entertainment here is definitely more suited to adults and older children/teens rather than very young families, which was exactly what we wanted. The live music in the evenings was fantastic: great singers and musicians, a mix of styles, and a level of quality I genuinely wasn’t expecting from a resort. It felt more like being at a stylish lounge bar than a typical hotel show. The entertainment team were brilliant. They were warm, funny and incredibly talented, and impressively switched between languages with ease. There were some great activities during the day: one particular highlight was a candle-making workshop, which my daughter absolutely adored. She came away not only with her own handmade candle, but also with memories of a really fun afternoon that felt a bit more creative and grown-up than the usual kids’ club fare.
A True 5 Star Experience for Teens and Adults
What stood out most overall was how beautiful and well kept the hotel is, while offering an atmosphere that feels ideal for couples, adults and families with older children or teens. It never felt chaotic or overly “kid-focused”; instead, it was calm, elegant and very easy to relax into. From the spotless facilities and stylish rooms to the amazing food, incredible beach views and brilliant, more grown-up entertainment, this felt like a true 5 star holiday for us. We arrived at Iberostar Selection Fuerteventura Palace ready for a break. We left with sun-kissed skin, two very happy girls, and that lovely feeling of having discovered somewhere special that we would happily return to again. If you are looking for a luxury beach escape in Fuerteventura that is particularly well suited to adults and teens, with outstanding food, immaculate facilities and some of the comfiest sunloungers imaginable, this hotel is a fantastic choice.
