New York, I can remember doing a school project and proudly drawing the Statue of Liberty when I was 13 years old. So, when my husband booked our first trip to New York in 2015, I was overwhelmed. It’s like any movie set in New York you have ever watched, and it felt so familiar.

It is a firm favourite of mine, and the last time I visited was November 2024. This was our 4^th visit and believe me each time we have found something totally new to do. From the crazy iconic Times Square to quieter parts of Central Park. From the Dumbo region with view of both Manhatton and Brooklyn Bridges to China Town. There is something for everyone.

Walking the Highline is a favourite of mine, with much artwork along the old railway walk, and some incredible architecture.

Take in the Rockettes which is just the best Christmas show you could see, with the famous falling soldier’s sequence.

And if Christmas trees are your thing, as they are mine, then visiting after thanksgiving when all the trees are lit and are everywhere you look is the time to visit.

Shopping at Macys is the best, with the old original escalator on the top 3 floors. Squeaking and wobbling as it goes.

A visit Madison Square is a must, check out the Knicks and maybe a concert, we have previously seen Billy Joel perform there.

For movie lovers there are so many parts of central park you can find set locations from Elf and Home Alone and don’t forget the Ghostbusters Station HQ

If you can sweet talk the door man on the Plaza as we, did you can even visit the famous hotel featured in Home Alone

Ellens diner is a must, you queue for breakfast, lunch or dinner but the actors put on an amazing performance, constantly singing on the tables. It is like attending a musical whilst you are eating.

I have done all the high viewpoints, Top of the Rock, The Empire State and the One World building, and the view from the One World is probably the most impressive.

Of course, if like me you remember the awful 9/11 day you will want to go pay your respects to the fallen, the memorial fountains are just the most peaceful thing. In the middle of the crazy city there is just peace. And the surviving tree is a sight for sore eyes.

At Christmas take in a trip to Dyker Heights which is the most Christmassy neighbourhood I have ever seen!

We also one year did a trip to Niagara Falls from Times Square – Yes really 22 hours but worth evert second.

NYC is endless, and is very much worth a visit.
