Our Family Escape to Skopelos: Sun, Sea and a Touch of Mamma Mia Magic
Some holidays feel like they have been quietly waiting for you. For our family, Skopelos was exactly that: a soft‑paced Greek island of pine‑covered hills, whitewashed chapels and turquoise coves, where the soundtrack is more cicadas and clinking glasses than cars and crowds. For a week in June, Skopelos gave us everything we needed: space to slow down, a beautiful hotel we could walk back to at the end of the evening, beaches and boat trips, and just enough Mamma Mia sparkle to keep everyone smiling.
Skopelos is one of those Greek islands that feels instantly soothing: pine‑covered hillsides, white chapels and turquoise coves where life moves at a softer pace. For our family, a week here was the perfect mix of easy days and little adventures.
We stayed at Olia Green, a beautiful, contemporary hotel within walking distance of Skopelos Town. It felt boutique yet relaxed, with lovely sea views and a calm, modern style. The service really stood out: with two vegans in our party, the team happily created special breakfast dishes just for them, so everyone started the day feeling properly looked after.
Most evenings we wandered into Skopelos Town, exploring the harbourfront tavernas and narrow lanes. Our favourite discovery was Donkee, a stylish cocktail bar with panoramic views across the bay. Sitting there at sunset, watching the boats in the harbour and the town lights slowly appear, became one of our favourite holiday rituals.
Days were spent exploring the island. We visited the famous Mamma Mia chapel, the tiny church of Agios Ioannis perched high on a rock above the sea. The short, steep climb rewarded us with incredible views and a real sense of movie magic. We also loved Glisteri beach club, tucked into a sheltered cove with clear water, cushioned sunbeds and a relaxed vibe that suited all ages. Another highlight was Panormos, a beautiful bay where we swam in deep‑blue water, relaxed on the beach and finished the day with a simple, delicious taverna dinner by the sand.
Skopelos worked brilliantly for us as a family: easy to get around, full of character and with plenty of options for both relaxing and exploring. If you are dreaming of a Greek island escape with boutique hotels, vegan‑friendly touches, beach clubs and cinematic scenery, Skopelos could be your perfect next chapter.
