Short on time in Naples

I’ve just returned from a fabulous few days in Naples, staying at the Eurostars Hotel Excelsior on the waterfront, and I’m already planning my return. Naples is one of those cities that gets under your skin: full of grit and charm, noisy, characterful and completely captivating. A few days was nowhere near enough to see everything it has to offer, but it was the perfect taster.<br/>Arriving into Naples, be prepared for the airport to feel a little manic. There are improvements happening and things are gradually getting better, but at the moment it can still feel quite chaotic and busy, especially at peak times. Once you are through and on your way into the city though, the rewards are instant.<br/>What really made the trip work was the hotel. Eurostars Hotel Excelsior sits in a prime position overlooking the beautiful waterfront, so you wake up to those classic Bay of Naples views that instantly remind you you’re somewhere special. From here, it’s an easy, pleasant walk into the heart of town, where narrow streets, grand piazzas and tiny cafes all jostle for attention. You feel close to the energy of the city, but with the sea just in front of you there is always a sense of space and light.<br/>Service at the hotel was excellent throughout our stay: warm, efficient and quietly attentive. From check-in to checkout, nothing felt like too much trouble and we were always greeted with a smile. Special thanks must go to the concierge, who genuinely could not do enough for us, even managing to find me a manicure on the day when most shops are closed. It gave the whole stay a very relaxed, cared-for feel, which was just what we needed after full days exploring Naples’ historic centre and waterfront promenades.<br/>A particular highlight is the hotel’s rooftop restaurant and bar. If you love a view with your meal, this is the spot. The restaurant itself is on the pricier side, but the food is superb, beautifully presented and perfect for a special evening. Sitting above the city with the lights reflecting on the water feels wonderfully atmospheric. If you do not fancy a full dinner, you can simply head up for a drink in the rooftop bar instead, soaking up the skyline and watching the city buzz below.<br/>Our time in Naples felt too short, but it was enough to convince me that this is a city worth getting to know. It is raw and real, with layers of history and culture, incredible food and a character all of its own.
