First Impressions

Flying into Saint Lucia, the first thing that strikes you is how dramatically beautiful the island is. Lush green mountains rise from the sea, tropical forests cover the landscape, and around every corner there seems to be another breath taking view.

Our first stay was at Bel Jou, a charming adults-only hotel overlooking Castries. It provided the perfect introduction to the island’s warm hospitality and laid-back atmosphere.  

Discovering Saint Lucia’s Romantic Resorts

Throughout the week I had the opportunity to visit some of Saint Lucia’s most sought-after resorts, each offering something unique for couples, honeymooners and wedding parties.

Among the standout properties were:

• Zoëtry Marigot Bay – an intimate luxury retreat tucked into one of the Caribbean’s most beautiful bays.  
• The Landings Resort and Spa – spacious villa-style accommodation perfect for families and couples seeking extra space and luxury.  
• Jade Mountain – quite simply one of the most spectacular hotels I have ever seen, with extraordinary views towards the Pitons.  
• Sugar Beach, A Viceroy Resort – nestled between the famous Pitons and boasting one of the island’s most stunning beaches.  
• Cap Maison – boutique luxury with a wonderfully exclusive feel.  
• BodyHoliday – ideal for those wanting to combine relaxation with wellness and activities.  

Each property offers a different style and atmosphere, which is exactly why I believe matching clients to the right hotel is so important.

Of all the properties I visited, my personal favourite was Cap Maison. While Saint Lucia is home to some spectacular large luxury resorts, Cap Maison offered something different. It felt intimate, elegant and genuinely boutique, with a warm atmosphere that made it easy to imagine celebrating a honeymoon, anniversary or special occasion there.

What really stood out was the food. One of the highlights of my stay was dining at The Naked Fisherman, Cap Maison’s beachfront restaurant. Set right on the sand overlooking the Caribbean Sea, it perfectly captures the relaxed luxury that Saint Lucia does so well. The setting was stunning, the service was excellent and the food was some of the best I experienced during the trip.

One of the biggest surprises for me was Body Holiday. While Saint Lucia is often associated with romance and luxury, this resort offers something quite different. As someone who enjoys health and wellbeing, I loved the focus on feeling your best while on holiday.

From healthy juices and nutritious snacks to fitness classes, wellness activities and spa treatments, there was always something happening. The atmosphere encourages guests to be as active or as relaxed as they choose, making it ideal for travellers who want to return home feeling refreshed and recharged rather than needing another holiday to recover.

What I particularly liked was that wellness didn’t feel restrictive. It felt enjoyable, balanced and luxurious, all while being set against the stunning backdrop of Saint Lucia’s coastline.

One property that left a lasting impression on me was Bel Jou. It may not be the most glamorous or luxurious resort on the island, but it demonstrated something equally important: exceptional hospitality.

Time and again I heard that guests return year after year, and after spending time there, I could understand why. The hotel has an intimate, welcoming atmosphere and a team that genuinely seems to care about its guests. The staff were incredibly friendly and worked hard to ensure everyone felt looked after.

Bel Jou reminded me that a memorable holiday is not always about the fanciest room or the most extravagant facilities. Sometimes it’s the people who make a place special, and Bel Jou has clearly mastered that art.

Sailing Along the Coast

One of the highlights of the trip was a romantic sail down the west coast towards Soufrière. Viewing Saint Lucia from the water gives a completely different perspective, with dramatic volcanic peaks, secluded coves and emerald-green hillsides creating an unforgettable backdrop.  

Mud Baths, Volcanoes and Chocolate

Saint Lucia offers much more than beautiful beaches.

We visited the famous drive-in volcano and sulphur springs, where many visitors enjoy a therapeutic mud bath experience.  

Later in the trip, we enjoyed a chocolate-making experience at Howelton Estate, a wonderful way to learn about the island’s cocoa heritage and one that I would highly recommend to visitors looking for something a little different.  

Why Saint Lucia Works for So Many Travellers

While Saint Lucia is famous for honeymoons and weddings, I came away realising just how versatile the destination is.

My Final Thoughts

The combination of spectacular scenery, world-class resorts, friendly locals and unforgettable experiences makes Saint Lucia one of the most impressive Caribbean destinations I’ve visited.

What stood out most was the variety. No two resorts felt the same, and every day brought a new experience, whether that was sailing along the coastline, exploring volcanic landscapes, discovering hidden beaches or simply watching the sun set over the Caribbean Sea.
