Safari in South Africa
Last April, my mum and I went on an unforgettable safari trip to South Africa. From spotting incredible wildlife to taking in breathtaking landscapes, every day brought a new adventure. In this blog, I'll share the highlights of our amazing journey and the memories we'll always treasure.
Staying at Safari Plains
For our stay, we chose a luxury tent at Safari Plains, which perfectly blended the excitement of the African bush with the comfort of a high-end lodge. The spacious tent had everything we needed while still making us feel immersed in nature. The lodge itself also featured a swimming pool, restaurant, bar, and spa, making it the perfect place to unwind between adventures.
Daily Game Drives
The highlight of every day was heading out on our game drives. We had at least one drive each day, although most days included two. The morning drive began at 6:30am, giving us the chance to watch the bush come to life as the sun rose, while the afternoon drive at 3:30pm offered incredible golden-hour views and the opportunity to spot more wildlife as temperatures cooled. Every drive was completely different, and there was always the excitement of not knowing what we would see around the next corner.
Incredible Wildlife Encounters
We were lucky enough to see an amazing variety of animals throughout our stay. Herds of elephants wandered peacefully through the bush, while giraffes gracefully browsed the treetops. We spotted hippos relaxing in the water, buffalo grazing in large groups, and countless zebras and impalas scattered across the plains. Some of the most memorable sightings were the predators. Seeing lions resting in the shade and watching some lazy cheetahs who lay in the long grass. We also encountered plenty of warthogs, often seen darting through the grass with their tails sticking straight up. Each game drive brought something new, making every outing just as exciting as the last.

Beyond The Drives
While the wildlife was the main attraction, we also had the chance to enjoy some unforgettable activities. Quad biking offered a thrilling way to explore the surrounding landscapes, while horse riding provided a completely different perspective, allowing us to experience the bush at a slower pace and connect with the environment in a unique way.
A Trip To Remember
From luxurious accommodation and unforgettable wildlife sightings to exciting outdoor activities, every day offered a new adventure. Whether relaxing by the pool after a morning game drive or heading back into the bush in search of more incredible animals, our safari was an experience we'll remember for years to come.
Is A South Africa Safari For You / Your Family?
A South African safari is an unforgettable experience, but it's worth knowing what to expect before you go. If you're travelling from the UK, the journey is long, and the early morning game drives often mean a 5:30am wake-up call. However, once you're out in the bush watching the sunrise and searching for wildlife, those early starts quickly feel worthwhile.
One of the biggest advantages is how much is included. With at least one game drive every day—and often two—you have plenty of opportunities to spot wildlife without having to book additional excursions. Staying in an exclusive lodge also adds to the experience, combining luxury accommodation with fantastic facilities, delicious food, and exceptional service.
Travelling as part of a small group made the safari feel much more personal. The guides took the time to answer questions, share fascinating facts about the animals and their behaviour, and ensure everyone had the best possible view during sightings. Their knowledge and passion for conservation made each drive both exciting and educational.
Whether you're travelling as a couple, with friends, or as a family, a safari is an experience that suits all ages. It's the perfect mix of adventure, relaxation, and luxury, offering memories that will stay with you long after you've returned home.
