Travelling with teenagers
• Firstly, I wanted to have a holiday without the continuous interruptions of “can I have” • Secondly, my kids look for different things in a holiday, so I needed to find something that worked for all of us • Thirdly, after a difficult year, all we were looking for was some complete downtime with great food and drinks
We were fortunate enough to be able to travel in June before the WEATHER got too hot and it was absolutely perfect. I can’t recommend a Jun or Sep trip highly enough if you can travel in those months, thus avoiding the peak Summer heat.
There are no less than 22 ROOM TYPES to choose from eg bungalows, the main building, family rooms, suites, rooms with private pools etc. The hotel are in the midst of upgrading their rooms, so make sure you ask which are renovated if that is important to you. We opted for a not renovated bungalow with a pool view as our priority was to be able to escape to the shade of the terrace when needed and equally to be a short distance from the pool for a dip.
The hotel has its own PRIVATE BEACH with plenty of sunbeds and a bar within stretching distance, but be warned, it is a rocky beach and we had to make a mad dash to the local village to buy water shoes. That said, as a family brought up in Asia, we miss swimming pools and were happy to pop to the beach for a dip but spend most of the day at the POOLS. Which were fantastic. There is one large free form pool with waterfalls and a lazy river meandering through beautiful grounds and a “quiet” adults only pool with no music, both of which are seawater pools. The children’s pool and the two indoor pools are freshwater – and a small but adequate gym and a lovely spa can also be found indoors.
The biggest draw for us, was that Grecotel Kos Imperial is one of the Grecotel groups “LUXME” hotels, which have the most amazing all-inclusive packages. There are four a la carte RESTAURANTS and you can book each of them once, as long as you stay a minimum of seven nights. The food was superb, as it was in the Lagoon buffet restaurant which served wonderful seafoods and roast meals, alongside traditional Greek food and a huge salad bar. The kids and I decided to start with the first COCKTAIL on the list and work our way through it, which it turned out we were very good at! All SPIRITS were premium ones and the WINE LIST had over 150 choices – all included!
If you’re looking for beautiful surroundings, stunning views and great food and drink this is the place for you. If you’re looking for entertainment and access to some nightlife, let me introduce you another time to Grecotel LuxMe Dama Dama in Rhodes!
