Winter Sun, Carnival Vibes & Ocean Views: My Week on a P&O Canary Islands Cruise
If you are craving some winter sun without a long‑haul flight, a Canary Islands cruise is such a brilliant option.
I have just come back from a week on board a P&O Cruises ship and I am already seriously considering booking again for the same time next year. Glorious weather, easy flying time, fantastic food it ticked so many boxes.
We sailed from Tenerife to Funchal in Madeira, with calls into Las Palmas in Gran Canaria and Arrecife in Lanzarote, plus an overnight stay in Tenerife that happened to coincide with carnival. It was the perfect mix of exploring ashore, relaxing on board and enjoying some very good food and entertainment.
Las Palmas, Gran Canaria has a long promenade, gorgeous sandy beach and relaxed waterfront. Arrecife in Lanzarote also exceeded expectations, with a pretty harbour, characterful Old Town streets and plenty of tapas stops.
Funchal gave me one of those perfect cruise days that shows how much you can experience in a short time and I will do a separate post on this.
On board, the food and entertainment were excellent, from elevated evenings at Epicurean and relaxed nights at The Beach House to classic cruise dinners and buffet favourites.
If you would like to plan your own winter‑sun cruise escape, I would love to help you find the right itinerary and ship.
