Historic towns and Harbourfront Hamilton

The South Shore is home to some of Bermuda’s most recognisable scenery, including Horseshoe Bay and Warwick Long Bay, where pink sands meet limestone cliffs and sheltered swimming coves. For a change of pace, head east to St George’s, the oldest continuously inhabited English settlement in the Western Hemisphere and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, or west to the Royal Naval Dockyard, where restored naval buildings now house museums, craft studios, restaurants, and water sports operators. In Hamilton, colourful Front Street overlooks the harbour and offers boutiques, galleries, dining, and easy access to the island’s central parishes.

Adventures on land and sea

There’s plenty to do beyond the beach, too. Bermuda is known as the ‘shipwreck capital of the world’, with accessible wrecks and coral reefs offering excellent diving and snorkelling, particularly during the clearer winter months. On land, you can explore Crystal Cave’s underground pools, walk or cycle sections of the Bermuda Railway Trail, play a round at Five Forts Golf Club or Turtle Hill Golf Club, and visit historic coastal forts. The island’s calendar brings even more character, from the music and parades of Bermuda Carnival to the two-day Cup Match cricket celebration between Somerset and St George’s. For something out on the water, book a sunset sail, catamaran cruise, or whale-watching trip between March and April.

A taste of Bermuda

The food scene reflects Bermuda’s British, African, Portuguese, Caribbean, and North American influences. Start with Bermuda fish chowder, traditionally finished with Goslings Black Seal Rum and sherry pepper sauce, or try a Bermudian fish sandwich made with fresh wahoo, coleslaw, and hot sauce. A traditional Sunday codfish breakfast comes with potatoes, eggs, banana, avocado, and savoury sauce, while spiny lobster is a seasonal favourite from September to March. Wherever you eat, make time for a Dark ’n Stormy, the island’s signature combination of Goslings rum, ginger beer, and lime.
