Santorini for the day
Santorini, beautiful island in Greece, famous for its stunning blue domed churches and filled with winding streets to explore.
On staying in Crete for 5 nights, my friend and I decided to
do a day trip to Santorini to visit the famous Blue Domed buildings on the
island.
We were met at our hotel and taken by private mini bus transfer to the port of
Remytheon.
Here we boarded a fast ferry to Santorini
The journey took 2 1/2 hours and on arrival our guide for the day met us from
the ferry and took us by coach to our first stop Oria.
Oria is famous for its Blue Domed churches and is full of little side streets
offering picturesque views of the iconic blue domed churches.

The bustling streets are full of restaurants, bars and independent shops.
The views of the Caldera are just stunning and every corner offers a little
surprise view.
The streets are busy and there are long lines for some photo stops, however in
my opinion the best views are from the Ruins which offer undisturbed views of
the whole of the town. And crazily was the least busy spot!
Cats sit on every corner soaking up the heat
Next we went to Fira the islands Capital which sits high above the Aegean sea.
Here you will find views high up of the winding road which is used to ascend to
the top of the town.
There is a cable car from the port to take you to the top if you are unable to
take the stairs.
They also use Donkeys to transport people up the hill, however I don't agree
with using the animals in such heat to carry people uo the hill. So please if
you go take the stairs or the cable car !
Again each street veers off in a different direction offering stunning views.
We sat and had a meal overlooking the Caldera and the higher town view. Perfect
to rest and enjoy good Greek hospitality in a beautiful setting
Overall our trip was amazing. The views lived up to the hype.
Is it busy ? Yes it is, but is it worth it to see the iconic scenes for
yourself?, absolutely.
I would recommend visiting early or late season as I can imagine high season
would be impossible to enjoy.
I would also recommend maybe staying overnight to really explore all the little
side streets on offer.
