Sailing from Southampton during the school summer holidays, this Cunard voyage combines the ease of no-fly cruising with two weeks exploring some of Spain and Portugal’s most exciting coastal cities. Your holiday begins with a relaxed sail south towards Lisbon, where trams climb steep streets above riverside cafés and tiled buildings glow in the late summer sun. Further along the voyage, stops, including Barcelona, Cartagena, Málaga, and Cádiz each bring something completely different, from beach clubs and Gothic streets to tapas bars and historic plazas.
Days aboard Cunard’s newest ship Queen Anne work particularly well for families, with plenty to keep all ages engaged between ports. Younger guests can spend time in the dedicated kids’ clubs, with age-specific activities and supervised sessions, while older children and teens have their own spaces to relax and socialise. Meanwhile, days flow between pool time, deck games, and casual dining, before evenings bring theatre shows, live music, and family-friendly entertainment that everyone can enjoy together.
One of the standout moments of the voyage is arriving into Barcelona, where you can step straight into one of Europe’s most energetic cities. You could spend the day wandering between Gaudí landmarks, beachside restaurants, and bustling food markets before returning to the ship as the city lights begin to appear along the waterfront.
This itinerary works particularly well for summer family travel because there’s so much variety from port to port. One day could mean beach time and waterfront bike rides in Barcelona, while another brings cable cars and castle views above Lisbon or aquarium visits and harbour walks in Málaga. Back on board, sea days break up the sightseeing with time around the pool, afternoon teas, deck games, and evening entertainment, giving the whole trip a much more relaxed rhythm.
