Kick off your adventure in Calgary before heading west towards the Rockies, where the scenery changes dramatically with every mile. Spend time in Canmore, surrounded by rugged mountain peaks, before continuing to Banff, where boutique shops, lively restaurants, and spectacular hiking trails sit beneath the towering backdrop of Cascade Mountain.
The drive between Lake Louise and Jasper along the legendary Icefields Parkway is often described as one of the world's greatest road trips. Stop whenever the view demands it, whether that's the brilliant turquoise waters of Peyto Lake, the thunderous Athabasca Falls, or the Columbia Icefield, where glaciers stretch towards the horizon in every direction.
Jasper offers a completely different perspective on the Rockies. Days here are all about wildlife and wide-open landscapes, with opportunities to spot elk, black bears, bighorn sheep, and moose as you explore the national park. As night falls, Jasper's status as one of the world's largest Dark Sky Preserves makes it an unforgettable place for stargazing beneath unbelievably clear skies.
The final part of the journey takes you north to Edmonton, offering a lively contrast to the mountain landscapes you've left behind. Along the way, having your own SUV allows you to explore at your own pace, stopping at scenic viewpoints, hidden lakes, and small mountain towns whenever something catches your eye.
