Cycle through the villages of Provence

7 nights from £1,535 per person based on 2 sharing

This small-group cycling journey through Provence combines vineyard-lined routes, hilltop villages, and some of southern France’s most recognisable landscapes. Travelling through the heart of the region, the route passes Roman sites, market towns, and quieter countryside roads, with time to properly experience each place on the route rather than simply riding through them. It’s an active trip, but one built around food, scenery, and local character.
  • The route takes you through classic Provençal scenery, from vineyards and olive groves to limestone hills and historic villages. Cycling between places like St Rémy de Provence and Châteauneuf-du-Pape, the pace allows you to notice the smaller details along the way, whether that’s roadside produce stalls, shaded village squares, or stretches of quiet countryside broken up by cafés and markets.

  • One of the standout moments is your time spent in Avignon, once home to the popes and still one of the region’s most atmospheric cities. Beyond the medieval streets and historic architecture, the journey also weaves in Roman history and the landscapes that inspired artists, including Vincent Van Gogh, giving the trip far more variety than a straightforward cycling tour.

  • Food and wine naturally become part of the experience throughout the week. A highlight is visiting Châteauneuf-du-Pape, where you’ll have the chance to sample wines in the area where they’re produced, surrounded by vineyards stretching across the Provençal countryside. Meals throughout the trip balance active days on the bike with long lunches, local dishes, and relaxed evenings after riding.

  • Travelling by bike gives the journey a completely different feel from a standard touring holiday. One moment you’re cycling through open countryside with lavender fields and vineyards on either side, the next you're arriving into a historic town for a coffee stop or a wander through the local market. That slower pace is what makes the trip feel immersive, allowing you to experience Provence properly rather than simply passing through it.
