Marseille & Majorca
I was very lucky to win 2 nights hotel in Marseille with a 48 hour city pass included. As we wanted to go away in October half term anyway, I had a look at where we could fly to from Marseille to extend the trip! Majorca (and a chance of sunshine) won and so we did a 5 night trip in total.
I was nervous about travelling soon after the introduction of the EES in Europe, especially for such a short trip, but actually it was not up and running on any of our flights so we were quick through all of the airports.
We stayed at Le Maison Du Mondes in Marseille which I can highly recommend - it is in a great location on the marina with easy access to many of the attractions. We did 40 hours in the city and during that time managed to visit Friol Island which we explored for a couple of hours with its amazing views, took the tourist train up to the Notre Dame and explored the city and Old Town. We caught the tail end of some weather so the ferry to Chateau D’If was unfortunately cancelled whilst we were there.
After our short visit we then flew to Majorca. We knew the weather was a little risky at that time of year but actually we got lucky and enjoyed mid 20s temperatures - no coats required! It was lovely to enjoy some beach and pool time. We also visited Soller, walked to Puerto Soller and then took the tram back which has been on my ‘to do’ list for a while. On the final day it was a little windy and we coudn’t hire bikes as planned,so we decided to walk up to the view point near Puerto Pollensa - we did get blown about a little but the views were worth it and despite the wind, we were very warm on the walk!
We went self-catering in Alcudia but ate out for all meals except a couple of breakfasts. I’d recommend Majorca at this time of year for great value for money if you are willing to take the risk with the weather!
