Marrakech Memories
I stayed in a Riad within the city walls, which is an incredibly authentic stay in the ciy. Colourful souks, Moorish architecture, intimate gardens and boutique hotels--Marrakesh is unforgettable. I spent my days exploring the quiet courtyards and snaking alleyways of the historic Medina, walking through the serene Jardin Majorelle or taking in the beauty of the city’s mosques.
I also spent a very uncultured day away from the city in the Palmeraie area at Nikki Beach, one of the most famous beach club concepts in the world, The Marrakech address was just as impressive as any of the others that I have ever visited. You do need to pre book, but there is a day bed to suit every budget.
This is most certainly not be my last visit to Morocco, I already have the coastal city of Casablanca in my sights.
There is so much I learned during my trip to this colourful city, here are just a few travel tips that I hope you will find helpful:
???? Try not to pay too much attention to signs - especially those pointing to Jamaa El Fna. They were pretty much never correct. ????Jamaa El Fna is a completely dry area, so all the cafes etc do not serve alcohol. ???? If someone offers to give you directions, politely decline, they will take you round the medina and you will be asked for money. ???? When walking through the souk keep to the right , the streets even in the narrow souks give way to scooters, motorbikes, donkeys & horses it’s mayhem. ???? Change your Dirham before you head to the airport, you are not permitted to take currency out of the country. ???? Ladies, cover, up something that at least goes beyond your knees, covers your shoulders and doesn't reveal too much boob for exploring the streets. ???? For a traditional stay, choose from one of the many wonderful Riads the city has to offer, all inclusive hotels outside the city walls will not give you an authentic experience.
I could literally go on and on , Marrakech officially has a place in my heart.
