At Quinta da Pacheca, we enjoyed a delicious evening meal overlooking the beautiful terraced vineyards, accompanied by wine and port tasting, with the famous Sandeman figure watching over the valley. At the family-owned Quinta de São Luiz, we learnt about generations of winemaking while enjoying a leisurely lunch and tasting in another spectacular setting."

Historic cities waiting to be explored

The itinerary offers much more than beautiful scenery. In Porto, colourful riverside buildings, grand churches, and famous port cellars provide the perfect introduction to northern Portugal, while a guided tour helps bring the city's rich maritime history to life. Guests also have the opportunity to visit Guimarães, widely regarded as the birthplace of Portugal. Crossing into Spain, the day in Salamanca is another standout. Home to one of Europe's oldest universities, the city is filled with magnificent sandstone architecture, lively squares, and centuries of history, offering a fascinating contrast to the tranquil pace of life on the river.

"One of my favourite days was sailing to where Portugal meets Spain before visiting the beautiful city of Salamanca. We were lucky enough to be there on the Feast of St John, when the streets came alive with traditional dress and colourful processions. Exploring its charming squares, historic streets, and magnificent cathedral was unforgettable - and stopping for a pastel de nata and coffee in the main square was the perfect way to soak up the atmosphere."
