Travel Counsellors experience the Adriatic and Greek Isles with Crystal Cruises

From the waterways of Venice to the cobbled streets of Dubrovnik and the sun-drenched islands of Greece, a recent journey aboard Crystal Serenity gave a group of Travel Counsellors the opportunity to experience a Mediterranean cruise with Crystal first-hand.

Travel Counsellors experience the Adriatic and Greek Isles with Crystal Cruises

Sailing from Venice to Athens, the eight-day journey travelled through Italy, Croatia, and Greece, combining time in some of the Adriatic and Mediterranean’s most captivating destinations with days spent discovering life aboard Crystal Serenity. It was a chance to experience the service, dining, spacious suites, and thoughtful details that define a Crystal voyage, while gaining valuable insight to share with customers planning their own cruise.

Beginning the journey in Venice

The experience began in Venice, with an overnight stay in Mestre before the group boarded Crystal Serenity at Fusina. Once aboard, there was time to settle into the ship’s Sapphire Veranda Suites and Aquamarine Veranda Suites, meet the dedicated butlers, and begin exploring the spaces that would become home for the week.

The first evening offered an early taste of what was to come, with dinner at Waterside followed by the ‘sailaway’ as the journey through the Adriatic began. The following morning brought the first port of call, Trieste, a city where Italian, Austrian, and Slovenian influences meet. Its grand waterfront, historic cafés, and elegant architecture provided a beautiful introduction to a voyage that would continue to reveal a different character at every stop.

Time to discover Crystal Serenity

A day at sea offered the perfect opportunity to experience more of Crystal Serenity itself. For some, that meant a leisurely breakfast in their suite before relaxing beside the Seahorse Pool. Others discovered the ship’s wellness facilities, boutiques, Palm Court, and even the pickleball court.

Dining quickly became another memorable part of the journey. Across the week, the group experienced venues including Waterside, Beefbar, Umi Uma, featuring Chef Nobu Matsuhisa’s Japanese-Peruvian cuisine, and Osteria d’Ovidio, with Italian dining created in collaboration with the Alajmo brothers.

Dubrovnik and the beauty of the Adriatic

After arriving into Dubrovnik, the group had a full day to discover one of Croatia’s most recognisable coastal cities. Encircled by medieval walls and filled with polished limestone streets, the Old Town offered plenty to explore independently, from narrow alleyways and local shops to cafés tucked between historic buildings. Those wanting to see more could choose from Crystal’s shore experiences, with options ranging from walking the city walls to exploring the surrounding countryside by bike.

Slowing down in Cephalonia

In Argostoli, Cephalonia, the emphasis shifted towards a slower style of island life. With its colourful harbour towns, inviting coastline, and waterfront cafés, the island gave the group the freedom to shape the day around whatever appealed most. Some could head towards the golden sands of Makris Gialos Beach, while others might choose to browse local shops, stop for coffee beside the water, or simply wander through Argostoli. Back aboard that evening, a celebration dinner brought everyone together in Waterside, providing time to reflect on the destinations, experiences, and friendships shared during the trip.

Stepping back in time in Monemvasia

One of the final calls was Monemvasia, an enchanting medieval settlement sitting beneath a dramatic rock formation off the eastern Peloponnese. Connected to the mainland by a causeway, the historic town is filled with restored stone buildings, Byzantine churches, winding cobbled streets, and views across the Aegean Sea.

It was an atmospheric final destination before the journey continued towards Athens. Back on board, the afternoon brought another of Crystal’s traditions: afternoon tea in Palm Court, complete with pastries, freshly baked scones, and panoramic sea views. A farewell dinner that evening marked the final night aboard before Crystal Serenity arrived into Piraeus, the gateway to Athens, the following morning.
