Our first holiday in 2022 was an Azamara cruise around Croatia - a stunning destination and a chance to find out what happens now you can't dock ships over 25,000 tons in Venice! Our last major trip of 2022 was a last minute cruise around the Greek Islands on Windstar. We always wanted to take a trip on a masted ship and it was everything we hoped for and more. We also explored Athens for a few days before flying home which was easy to do and very interesting. In 2023 we added Seville, Haarlem (Netherlands) for Floriade, the USA, Mexico, Cornwall, Devon & Cyprus. In 2024 our biggest trip was a month spent travelling around California and Canada. The highlight was the Calgary Stampede which we followed with a leisurely self drive through the Rockies and a stop on the East in Montreal. Our first trip 2025 was to Abu Dhabi and Thailand and we ended our travels visiting Tallinn in Estonia for their Xmas markets. I was also lucky enough to visit Costa Rica through the tourist office on a business trip.For each personal & client booking I make I'm planting trees through Trees4Travel to help offsets the carbon emissions generated by our travels. So far I've planted over 1000 trees in Kenya & Mozambique. I started straight from school as a trainee and worked my way up to a Branch Manager of a high-street travel agency. I have lived here in the village for over 30years and just love country life.I originally hail from New Zealand(so know this area very well) which is where I had the best travel education facilities afforded to me. I started from the ground (in 1979 – just a baby) as just an office assistant in a VFR travel agency dealing mainly with the Dutch and Belgian expats. I learnt most of my formative trade there and quickly moved up the ranks to consultant and tour guide. I became a member of the New Zealand Institute of Travel which enabled me to expand my knowledge.I started travelling at the age of 16 with my sisters and we were lucky to be able to travel to Europe and some of the Pacific Islands. From there my itchy feet started. In 1986 I moved to Holland (where my Dad is from). In November 1986 I joined British Airways and worked for them in reservations and sales at Heathrow and Gatwick for 17years. I was fortunate to travel a great deal to all four continents (more than once) and forged some lasting life long friendships and experiences. I did all the required exams in sales, marketing, ticketing and operations. I won most sales prizes every month for highest productivity and an Award For Excellence.I left BA to work in a Travel Agency specialising in Cuba and the Caribbean where I was a Manager. I gained invaluable experience and made very useful contacts (who still book with me to this day). I did a two year stint with Qatar Airways at their Heathrow ticket desk and I then set up on my own, and so here we are. Travel is my destiny – I knew that when I was 4 years old and tried selling a holiday to my 1-year-old sister… with little success. This didn’t faze me though, on the contrary. We were fortunate to be able to travel to many places in Europe when we were growing up and before long, I was the one arranging our high-school end-of-term trip to the South of France.To properly kickstart my career in the industry, I studied Travel and Tourism Management in my home country, Switzerland, and as a reward to myself for graduating, I packed my backpack (or two and the kitchen sink – it was in 2006 after all, long before smart phones and a lot of the bulk was from guide books and maps) and flew on my own to São Paulo to start my South and North America backpacking trip. Over the course of 10 months, I travelled mainly overland through Brazil, Argentina, Peru, Ecuador, Louisiana, the US East Coast, Ontario, Alaska, British Columbia and all along the Pacific Coast to LA. It was absolutely amazing and an unforgettable experience – especially the 52 hours on the bus from Salta (Argentina) to Lima (Peru). A little fun fact: In the last 20 years I have lived in 6 different countries including a summer holiday in Iceland, working in the local hostel and a season working in a hotel on Gran Canaria. By far my favourite places were Vancouver as a city and New Zealand as a country though and the places I went back to several times; I even got married in a small coastal town outside Christchurch/NZ to my Kiwi husband. Our first major trip as a new family was last year, when we finally introduced our pre-schooler to our NZ family as well as friends in Vancouver - only three years later than originally planned, thanks to Covid.Another outcome of the pandemic was me losing my job with the Switzerland Travel Centre, a specialist tour operator for Switzerland. During my time there I worked closely with Travel Counsellors and remembering my chats with a number of my favourite TCs was the catalyst for me to start my own journey as an independent travel advisor and franchise owner.
